Today I received an Update notification window within MWP 2011 1.2 to update to version 1.3, a file download size of 12MB. Duly downloaded and installed but it failed to launch/open no matter what I tried so have had no option but to un-install it and re-install version 1.2 which thankfully I still had in my Downloads folder.
Is this a known "bug"? ..... or indeed is there a genuine version 1.3 as I do not see it listed under the Announcements

1.3 Has been posted and is legitimate. You might want to check your security software logs etc. to see if that is blocking the new version. You may have to tell it that the new executable is "Trusted".

Yes I have already thought of that and Mailwasher was listed as Trusted and I see the installer for version 1.3 is still there listed in the Trusted zone.

Interesting....if you have the time I'd like it if you could install 1.3 then add to the desktop shortcut a space and -mailprefs so it looks like this
And see if MW starts using that.

Tried that but it makes no difference it still will not launch. The Hour glass appears for a short time then disappears and nothing further happens .... so its an uninstall again ....
So frustrating as version 1.2 launches straight away with no problems.

Try the following. Make a backup copy of the complete User File directory. The uninstall 1.2 and don't keep settings or if you don't have 1.2 installed then download the Revo Uninstaller Pro and clean out everything for MWP2011 (except your backup copy of the User files). Download 1.3.0 and install and see if it will start then. Then post back here.

Re: MailwasherPro 2011 v1.3 fails to launch/open
Still no luck, MWP v1.3 stubbornly refuses to launch.
I have tried a clean install as you suggest and even run CCleaner to check there was nothing lurking in the Registry.
With v1.3 remaining totally inactive I have removed it and re-installed v1.2 which launched in a flash. When the update window popped up and I selected to update to version 1.3 there and then, just in case that would fix things, but still no joy, so I have uninstalled everything and re-installed v1.2 and re-instated my user Files.
If v1.3 is not an essential security update I feel like sticking with v1.2 as at least that works well and launches in a flash.
And and hoping that when v1.4 arrives it will behave perfectly on my machine as all previous versions of MWP have, with the exception of v1.3
PS. Is there a difference between Revo Uninstaller (Free version) and Revo Uninstaller Pro. I have downloaded the free version as the other one looked way too technical for my poor old brain to cope with

Re: MailwasherPro 2011 v1.3 fails to launch/open
I too just tried to install MWP2011 ver 1.3 (after biting the bullet and buying another "lifetime" Mailwasher license) only to have the app crash each and every time it tries to open.
I uninstalled previous, CCleaned and Regcleaned my system... deleted previous program files, deleted user files, tried at least 10 times to install including reboots, disabled antivirus... tossed quite a few spicy words at it. Nope, nadda, zilch, no-go.
Same error message "MailwasherPro has encountered a problem and needs to close." Was this the software talking... or a Freudian slip.
Reinstalled MWP2011 ver 1.2 and it instantly fired up and worked as it should.
Win XP SP3
IE 8

If you get the time, could you reinstall 1.3, let it crash and see if there is a file created called error.log it will be in
XP
C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Firetrust\MailWasher
and on Vista/Win7
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\MailWasher

Re: MailwasherPro 2011 v1.3 fails to launch/open
Actually a better step in the interim might be this. If you save the installer file to your desktop, and (optionally) rename it to something like mwinstall.exe
Then go Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt and in the Window type..
desktop\mwinstall.exe /l*v mw.log
Screenie... When you hit ENTER the installer should run and also create a lg file of the install process on your desktop called mw.log, if you can send me that to forum@firetrust.com that might help.

Re: MailwasherPro 2011 v1.3 fails to launch/open
I had the same problem, just bought 2 lifetime licenses, applied them to my existing/running fine installations of MWPro 2011 v. 1.3. Then both apps crashed, wouldn't open. Uninstalled both, kept user and account data, re-installed v. 1.2, everything is okay now, plus MWPro knows we have the lifetime licenses. I'm only entering this as a "me too" response and to get replies about the problem e-mailed to me.

Right, so it's definitely an issue starting 1.3 with a lifetime license it seems....unfortunately I'm not seeing the same, currently testing with one of your licenses Carole.
So it's this step we'd be greatly interested in....

heart in mouth have run through that procedure rusticdog
Saved install file to desktop, renamed etc
Then uninstalled MWP 1.2 using moderate setting in Revo Uninstaller. Which removed 3 leftover Registry Keys.
Installed MWP 1.3 which failed to launch once again.
Log file attached .... hope you can spot the gremlin!!
