My "spam" button does not work : it has been desactivated.

Forum for MailWasher Pro 7 and/or 2011/2012 versions.

My "spam" button does not work : it has been desactivated.

Postby berl » Tue Nov 08, 2011 12:13 am

I have been one of the first users of MWP in France (2004) - and even proposed to help with the translation in 2007.
I liked this program, and bought it. I also uprgaded to MWP2010: it was really bad at the beginning (freezes, crashes several times a day...). MW team has done a lot of work since the release. MW2010 was clearly not finished when released, now that's fixed. Along with others my reports helped, but what a loss of time for the final user ! I asked myself several times if it would not be better to return to MWP6 !

I have bought a software with 1 year of upgrades, support : OK I probably have misread the cart and I found nothing about it on the messages I received about that.
But if I cannot upgrade, I cannot use the software any more, as the "spam-wash" button is desactivated. THAT is unfair. Not the fact that I have to pay for upgrade. I am OBLIGED to pay to continue to use MW.
That is not the case with any of my softwares : if I want to upgrade I accept to pay but my license will continue to be valid if I don't upgrade and I could continue to work as it is.
Please reactivate this button, even if the upgrade and support are not possible.

The new program is "subscription" based and as such you need to either renew annually, purchase a multi-year license or locate an affiliate that has a lifetime license left in inventory.

You also have the option of going back to the old version 6+.

Thank you.
That is not the problem : if I don't subscribe for upgrade and support, I can continue to use the program I have bought.
This program is not a shareware desactivated after the test-time : I paid for it.
In this case, one stole me the program. I have never seen that !!!!!

You have not purchased the program, you have only purchased a years subscription, once the subscription lapses the program deactivates.

Subscription software is the same as newspapers and magazine subscription. Either you pay to continue or it stops. Software is never "bought", if you read the terms of the licenses with the software your are granted the right to "use" it not own it and with MWP that right to use is for a specific interval of time e.g. 1,2,3 years or lifetime depending on how much you pay. There are many other subscription based products on the market.

Does the 'Wash' button get activated once you restart your MWP?

No. Firetrust desactivates the software. You need to buy another license.

Aw, I misunderstood - was under the impression that you were facing some operational issue.

This was NEVER stated when they advertised MWP, and of course not stated that it would be desactivated. Can you catch flies with vinegar?
It is NOT like a newspapers and magazine subscription : if you don't renew you don't receive the newspaper but nobody comes to remove you the right to use the ones you already had.
I just ask for the right to use the software I have bought.

See : was it stated clearly ???

Postby Olen » Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:16 am

I'm right there with you Bernard! My registration also expired and I too learned that this meant the software would no longer function. I had thought I was purchasing a subscription to all future updates for one year, not the right to use the software for one year. Intentional or not, the website is VERY misleading and should be fixed. Sidewinder may be technically correct in his statements but as far as I am concerned, I call this shady at best. I will not be buying this software any longer. I may drop back to the old version which I have in my possession because I've been using this software for years but I haven't really decided yet.
I'm a network admin and have been for going on 15 years. I've dealt with lots and lots of different types of software (cloud based, dongle keys, registration keys, etc) and never have I had a piece of software stop working like this one does. If they are going to do something so "out of the norm" as they have done here then they should sure make a whole lot more of an effort to educate their customers to make them aware of it. I spent a lot of my time scrounging around on Google and Firetrust site trying to figure out what was wrong before I stumbled across this post and discovered that there wasn't anything wrong at all but was the way the software was designed! Sure I had seen a handful of reminders regarding my subscription coming to an end but was to busy at the time to renew so I was putting it off. I thought I would still be able to use the software, I just wouldn't be able to upgrade if a new version come out. Now, I am glad I was too busy to renew because it allowed me to learn all this before I gave them more of my money!

"A lot" is relative.
"Some are being disabled that way" I would concede to. Is it a growing trend...possibly. Is it the norm, absolutely not. I stick with all my original statements. If I missed it (the fact that it was subscription limited) then I totally understand others missing it.
The fact remains and is evident in this forum that there is a communication issue between Firetrust and the customers and I recommend Firetrust fixing it. I like Mailwasher. I've been using Mailwasher since 2004. I am "tech support" for a lot of people and I have recommended Mailwasher a lot, but I will have to be a lot more careful with that recommendation in the future. For me personally, I still haven't decided what I'm going to do.

Hold on ... wait ... are you telling me that FireTrust wants an ANNUAL fee for me to continue use it?!?! Are you serious?? This things just deletes bad email... it's not FEA code!!? And even there: ANSYS requires you to pay an anuual fee for MAINTENANCE ... not to continue to use a product you've already purchased.

Sadly I will have to part ways with FireTrust. I'm a long time user, but I shan't be shoveling $20 a year into a deep hole. Unbelievable.

This program not "just" deletes bad E-mail... It makes your E-mail stream controllable! And guess what?? If you don't wish to "shovel" your money to the folks who did a terrific job in spamfighting.. well.. these folks also offer the produce of their hard work for free: MailWasher Free. Agreed: it's a limited version, but hey... Firetrust folks have to eat too, you know.. :devil
