Above error happens from time to time.
Normally this may happen in case of too frequent 'polls'/'fetchings'. For instance in case you are waiting for an urgent email and you are then clicking the [Checking Mail]-button too often.
I know that. The Outlook.com servers are having problems with that. They can not handle, or are protected against, too frequent 'fetches', contrary to for instance Gmail.
But ... it may also happen at 1st launch of MW ... like today, right now, whilst writing this thread.
I just have to wait, it isn't a matter of settings, they are okay.
Mailwasher is checking a five email accounts at the same time.
In the Error log file, in the column 'Priority' it says 'Medium' - check mail, fetching, filtering.
Except for the outlook account.
=
=
Oh ... right now I see Mailwasher fetching all mail headers, so it is okay, as expected.
I wonder though why this could be happening already at first run ...
All accounts are POP3.

Under Help >> User Files >> logs >> open todays date folder >> you can email me the MWPapp_xxxx@outlook.com.log file to forum@firetrust.com also if you can roughly tell me what time I need to look at.

Also do you have the Outlook account setup in any other programs other than your regular email client?
MailWasher Mobile, maybe your phone is polling the account as well etc...

OK great, got the log files (removed your attachment from the above post too). The error though is seemingly a disconnect, not a problem with too many logons.
Here's the snippet, lines with C: are MailWasher sending a command, lines with S: are the replies from the server.

So MailWasher logs in all OK, then sends the STAT command (which tells it how many messages there are) and it appears getting disconnected. Do you have any kind of AntiVirus email scanner that's enabled perhaps ?01-26-2017 05:49:45.185 Info C: USER xxxx@outlook.com

An interim solution may also be to use IMAP instead in MailWasher, using the server address imap-mail.outlook.com

Thanks a lot!
Okay ... confusion was on my part.
You are right (of course).
I just tried to repeatedly fetch mails and after quite a number of times Outlook-server got an error.
That one was/is different indeed.
"
01-26-2017 09:12:51.768 Error POPservice::Login SocketException - GetLine failed() failed with code 10054: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
"
I am sorry indeed for the confusion.
Am unsure why the first error occurred though, as I could launch my browser without issues.
Anyway, matter is clear now.
Many thanks again

Re: Outlook.com : "Failed to login to server "pop-mail.outlook.com" for your xxxxxx@outlook.com a/c
Sorry for the delay.
Yes, I am using: Emsisoft Internet Security + MBAM.
I *thought* it would have been solved by setting Google DNS - Preferred: 8.8.8.8 - Alternate: 8.8.4.4 in the router.
But that was not the case. This morning I again encountered this issue.
Note that usually it is at the 'first launch' of Mailwasher, i.e. there are no issues later on during the day.
The "Error POPservice::Login SocketException - GetLine failed() failed with code 0:" error in relation to being disconnected.
Am not sure I understand.
I am connected to Internet when this happens and there are no errors on the other email accounts. It's Outlook only.
Regretfully IMAP is no option. IMAP has some drawbacks that are is withholding me from using it, one being that
it does not allow the user to actually browse+select an existing .pst file where everything should be stored in, same as with pop.
Note: I have a .pst file per account and they are located on a different drive. When setting up the pop-accounts in Office,
one can actually browse to and select an existing .pst file, so all mail will henceforth be delivered in that .pst file.
With IMAP that option (browse and select) is not available.
The above error is automatically solved by just waiting for a couple of minutes.
Whilst typing this post, the issue was solved.. :-)
(Using MW v7.9.0)
Anyway, I thought there would be an easy solution...

Re: Outlook.com : "Failed to login to server "pop-mail.outlook.com" for your xxxxxx@outlook.com a/c
Do you have something that triggers an attempt to connect during the start-up process. I have seen several instances where the network connection isn't avaliable until later in the cycle and causes fails to occur. If that's the case then either start the app manually or use a utility where you can set individual timer delays on apps during start-up

Re: Outlook.com : "Failed to login to server "pop-mail.outlook.com" for your xxxxxx@outlook.com a/c
I don't know, to be honest. It is only the pop.outlook.com server. I have no problem logging into my Outlook mail account using web-access, whereas in the background Mailwasher can't.
Clicked on 'Check Mail' button with Outlook com web access open.
As said, the peculiar thing is that:
1. it is at Mailwasher's first run
2. it is limited to pop.outlook.com only (other ISP's: no problem)
3. after waiting for 5 minutes, things are automatically 'solved' and there are no issues anymore with Outlook or any other accounts
One way or the other it looks like after a few minutes 'something' has been reset or so
Don't believe it has anything to do with the settings. Maybe it has something to do with permissions?
But.. then again, are these permissions 'reset' after a couple of minutes?
Nice 'problem' eh ...

No, wouldn't know what they are used for in respect of the initial run.
Disabled them now and will see what happens tomorrow and the days thereafter.
Again, as said, it involves the very first run only, i.e. after 1st launch of the pc.
(I might reboot the pc, launch MW but the issue will not occur then)
Will keep an eye on it.

Re: Outlook.com : "Failed to login to server "pop-mail.outlook.com" for your xxxxxx@outlook.com a/c
Just would like to get back on this. The pipelining thing, that did not help, regretfully so.
BUT ... I also launched Outlook after this error and Outlook reported an error (0x800CCC0F)
So, it has nothing to do with MW.
I read a 'solution' about changing the server timeout. In Outlook:
File->Account Settings->Account Settings->Change (from the email tab)->More Settings->Advanced (tab) ->Server Timeouts
this was set to 1 minute (default) and I changed it to 3.
Today I could not verify whether this will work - cud not test it, the mail arrived as I used time to find the possible solution and apply that, i.e. in the meantime MW pulled in the mail.
Will see overtime.
=
p.s. though I can change this setting in Outlook, I am not sure about MW. Don't see such kind of settings, but then again, I don't know if this setting is important to be set in Mailwasher.
btw: it strikes me that when posting - it takes quite a long time for the Firetrust server to respond.

Re: Outlook.com : "Failed to login to server "pop-mail.outlook.com" for your xxxxxx@outlook.com a/c
It's neither an issue with MWP nor with Outlook — the problem lies with Yahoo! (they have taken some internal decisions on their POP protocols — unfortunately, the issue is not a bug, but by design . . . . . . meaning intentional.)mw62 wrote:BUT ... Yes, Firetrust has upgraded to the latest forum software which calls for maintenance on a more frequent note than the previous version — it's time for the WebMaster to purge the Board cache.mw62 wrote:btw: it strikes me that when posting - it takes quite a long time for the Firetrust server to respond.
