Disable Overall Evaluation

Fri May 19, 2017 7:40 am

Hi ~

I am trying out the new v7.9 and would like to turn off the overall evalution so that it functions strictly on my own filters and whitelists. For some reason, MWP is randomly deleting some emails that are evaluated as undecided and so there is some kind of hidden uncontrolled element in there that could lead to a liability issue which I want to avoid at all costs. I have turned off learning, origin and firstalert. I cannot find a setting to disable overall evaluation. Is it possible to do this?

Thanks!

P.S. "Autodelete if rating reaches" setting is turned off.

You could check out whether your MailWasher is set to auto-delete at any of the 4 levels.

Yes . . . . . . additionally, you might want to navigate to Spam Ratings to drag all the sliders to the extreme left.

There's no way to disable the evaluation. The spam tools and filters that contribute to that can be, so if they are all disabled the evaluation will always be 0.

This is the issue.

First I would install this version, it will install fine over the existing http://cdn.firetrust.com/downloads/mail ... 052017.exe

For any POP account, try turning off the cache. Under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> remove the check from Store Cached Emails.

Try that first, let us know how you get on. MailWasher certainly should not be deleting unknown emails

The Overall Evaluation of zero is the problem. MWP is deleting those emails. All accounts are set to IMAP and no cached emails. Today, another highly important email came in for one of our attorneys managing large IRA accounts that was deleted with an Overall Score of 0. The email didn't match any filters, isn't from a listed spammer source or is in any part of the blacklist. How do I adjust the settings so that overall scores with zero are NOT DELETED EVER?

Did you read my previous post about auto-delete . . . . . . very carefully?

Also, did you try the 7.10.01 from rusticdog's post?

ps:—
  • Your screenshot is practically unreadable (for me) — hope you can attach a clearer one.

I did go through the auto-delete post and I have everything correct. The only autodelete I have set are my blacklist and my custom filters that I have been using for nearly ten years on MWP 6. The auto-delete on Origin, FirstAlert, Learning and SpamRatings are all turned off. For the graphic, this site does not allow images larger than that. Anyway, its just a screenshot showing my Recycle Bin with a ton of emails having an Evaluation of 0, matching no filters and not on a blacklist.

Will try 7.10 and see but you may want to remove 7.9 from your download page.

Turn-off each and every one of those auto-delete filters — the V7 is an entirely different edition from the V6.

Just take a brief look around the site and check for yourself. ;)

7.10 has a fix relating to the LOGOUT command for IMAP. I've not known this issue to cause the problem you describe, but certainly if the issue does happen in 7.10 then that's a worry.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Hi all ~

Thanks for working with me on this.

So I loaded 7.10.1 and its doing something else which might be related to the 7.9 issue - it is not showing the STATUS (reason for delete) in the Recycle Bin although they DO MATCH a spam filter. The evaluation score is also showing zero and the sidebar shows no criteria has been hit but they have all been properly deleted according to my filters. The evaluation for these emails should be -200 which is what I have set in the filters. I have not yet seen a legitimate email with zero eval get deleted thus far so I can't report on that if or when it happens again.

Hi Chris ~

OK I sent it.

FYI: I uninstalled 7.10 before I saw your reply and tried 7.8.10 thinking it might be a recently introduced bug but 7.8 still shows deleted items with a zero evaluation.

Every release (as far back as I can remember) has always shown (at least) a few deleted items with a zero evaluation — the following illustration is from the beta release, 7.10.02:—

wait....so emails have to score above +50 in order to be reliably kept? That doesn't sound right. There is absolutely no way to predict who is going to email me in order to whitelist them or create a rule that would push their message above 50. Thats impossible. All emails with a zero eval should never ever be deleted. The only emails that should be deleted are those that match some kind of specified criteria that causes it to score below -50.

If you mean auto-deleted — no . . . . . they are not. ;)

And thats whats happening here including random emails on my friends list with a Friends Filter that scores those emails +200 and never mark for delete which somehow ends up scoring zero and in the recycle bin automatically. And its not all of them all the time. Its random. But still, with a zero eval, they shouldn't get deleted.
