Mail washing opens multiple instances of Outlook
I have just purchased a new laptop which has Win 10 Pro installed. Years ago I purchased Office 2007 which does all I need so I reinstalled that. Then I installed MW v7.11. It works as it should except that each time I wash my mail it opens a separate instance of Outlook 2007. Is there a way to prevent that please?

Re: Mail washing opens multiple instances of Outlook
If you go into Settings >> General >> Washing Mail >> you need to select to Use Other Application and manually navigate to the location of the Outlook EXE.
It will be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12
With Outlook.exe highlighted click the Open button >> then back in MailWasher click in the field and arrow key across to the very end and add a space and /recycle >> Save.
The full path in MailWasher should look something like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe" /recycle
Cheers

Re: Mail washing opens multiple instances of Outlook
On my new laptop MW is again opening a new instance of Outlook every time I wash mail.
I have it set to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE" /recycle
Do I need to uncheck the 'Launch after Wash Mail' box?

So even with the Recycle flag set, it's still opening multiple instances ?

Re: Mail washing opens multiple instances of Outlook
No, Windows was misbehaving. The issue solved itself after restarting the machine.
Sorry about that.

No worries at all, good to know if I hear about such things in future.

I know this is old, but I am having the same issue. The difference with me is that restarting the PC hasn't solved the problem. Any suggestions?

Under Settings >> General >> Washing Mail >> what's the full command you have presently entered in the Email Program field ?languageservicesco wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 4:56 amI know this is old, but I am having the same issue. Re: Mail washing opens multiple instances of Outlook
Here you are:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE" /recycle
I tried it with and without a space after the quotation mark, but it didn't like it with no space.

Re: Mail washing opens multiple instances of Outlook
No that looks right, and I assume it's opening Outlook just fine, but you are getting the duplicate instances of the program, having two or more open at once.
Do you use Profiles in Outlook ? If not, try running a Repair on the Outlook install https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/off ... b40c5bb88b

Strange, I wrote a response to the last answer and it seems to have disappeared!
I thought there needed to be a profile for any Outlook installation. Under "Manage profiles" I see one profile. I have run a repair, but it doesn't appear to have made any difference.

OK, and MailWasher can open Outlook just fine, however it is opening a second instance of the program ?

Exactly. And if I leave them open, a third and a fourth etc.

It looks like you aren't alone, find a few posts with no obvious solution about this.
