I'm running MW 2012 on Windows 8 x64. MW worked fine for the first couple of weeks after I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8.
Then if MW loaded when Windows restarted, Windows Task Manager would show MW running but there would be no icon in the notification area, so no way to access MW. Running MailWasherPro.exe manually would result in the MW splash screen appearing and freezing at the message 'Starting MailWasher'. Closing the running process and starting MW again would sometimes work, other times it would hang on the splash screen again.
So I turned off MW auto-start, restarted Windows and started MW manually. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. Today whatever I try, MW is freezing on the splash screen at 'Starting MailWasher.'
I've tried a repair reinstallation, no joy. So is the installation corrupted in some way, is there a conflict with Windows 8 or with some other app I'm running, or what? Is there a way to find out what's causing the freeze and remedy it, short of wiping and recreating the whole installation plus accounts?
Regards,
Peter

Re: MailWasher fails to start
We have a couple of Beta testers who run W8 so I'll let them weigh in on any W8 specifics but there a couple of things you could look at/do. Make sure that whatever security software that you are running has MWP as a "Trusted" application. You can also try doing an Uninstall of the program, it will ask if you want to Save your settings. Just reply yes and then reinstall fresh from a download of the the 1.20 version at the top of this forum.

Nope MWP 2012 runs fine in Windows 8 - there's no conflict, at all (have been using it for the last 1 month.) Even the Beta releases of Windows 8 were fine with MWP 2012.Polwhele wrote: I'm running MW 2012 on Windows 8 x64. MW worked fine for the first couple of weeks after I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8.

Setting MWO to auto-start is not a brilliant idea, IMO.Polwhele wrote:Then if MW loaded when Windows restarted, Windows Task Manager would show MW running but there would be no icon in the notification area, so no way to access MW. Re: MailWasher fails to start
Thanks for your quick responses. Unfortunately major surgery was required. I tried reinstalling, no joy, could not find any issue with my AV (MW was trusted), rolled back to a couple of earlier installations when MW was working but it still wouldn't play ball.
The only clue was an error message that indicated an issue with the .NET framework. At that point decided to cut my losses and do a clean install of Windows 8, instead of continuing to struggle with the current installation (an upgrade retaining Win7 apps and settings).
The clean install was relatively painless and MW is now working correctly - apart from a couple of accounts where I'm so far unable to figure out the correct settings. Expect I'll find it eventually.

Peter

Re: MailWasher fails to start
Glad your issue is resolved
With reference to only Windows 8 - I've observed that an upgrade fails sooner or later and it's highly recommended to use a clean install.Polwhele wrote:At that point decided to cut my losses and do a clean install of Windows 8, instead of continuing to struggle with the current installation (an upgrade retaining Win7 apps and settings).

Re: MailWasher fails to start
For future reference when you see .NET as a possible suspect you can do an in place place Repair from the Control Panel Programs and Features by clicking on the selection and it will then provide a prompt to either repair or uninstall. There seems to a an all to frequent correlation between putting in Microsoft's updates for Windows and the subsequent malfunctions of .NET. Doing the repair of .NET is quicker that having to do a complete do over of Windows.Polwhele wrote:Thanks for your quick responses. Unfortunately major surgery was required.
