Re: I mark an email as spam but they are downloaded anyway

You need to open the filter that caught the spam and choose the "Action" setting to delete automatically.

Use it judiciously; it can be hard to predict what might get deleted. Best to only activate it after having used the filter to mark things for manual delete for a while.

Re: Need more to combat junk

Unfortunately, if there were a way to stop junk mail that was highly effective, there wouldn't be so much junk mail. You can let someone else filter it and take the risk that they will delete something important, or you can filter it yourself with MW and just accept that there will be much more spam...

Re: Comments from new paid subscriber

Agree with RusticDog. If the part of the email you are trying to filter says "base64," you will have to filter for the encoded string, not the part that actually displays. You CAN do that, it just takes more effort. There are websites that will let you code/decode base 64. The important thing to kno...

Re: Bounced Emails Don't Show

Honestly, bouncing isn't effective anymore. Servers that are configured correctly don't bounce emails that are sent to non-existent addresses -- they just drop them. So I'm not surprised a service like Gmail wouldn't send bounces to your inbox. The vast majority of them won't be emails you have sent...

Re: Why is Betting Site Spam - Immune to filtering?

I would start with opening "Show email info" and the "source" tab. Often things that are missed by filters are either: 1. Full of meaningless html tags going on for dozens of lines at the top, so that the portion of email downloaded for filtering doesn't include the meat of the email or 2. being sen...

Re: Spam from your own email address

It's hard to filter email if they put your own email address in the "from" field. You can't simply use the "blacklist" feature. A couple options: If the ones you send "from" a particular email address will always have a certain IP address or other strings in the headers. For instance, things you sen...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/12/15/dave_grohl_makes_earth_move/ In a scene that could have been written by Douglas Adams, a Foo Fighters gig in Auckland in quake-prone New Zealand has shown up on seismic monitoring stations. New Zealand’s geological hazard monitoring system GeoNet described th...

Re: Another earthquake.

The thing I keep thinking about is, earthquake in Chile, earthquake in NZ, earthquake in Japan -- one more side of the Ring of Fire that hasn't responded to the movement of the plate. Maybe the unusual earthquake activity in the Midwest and East Coast is absorbing some of the energy? I doubt the wes...

Re: Another earthquake.

There's a slideshow of the damage to the national cathedral:
http://www.dcquake.nationalcathedral.org/#

One of the pinnacles seems to have wobbled sideways like an unbalanced washing machine. Things could have been much worse if it had actually toppled.

Re: Another earthquake.

We felt it in Philadelphia but spent the whole time trying to figure out if it was really an earthquake. Earthquakes are pretty far down on the list of things that would make our house shake around here. I've never felt one like that, with shaking that goes on for a while. The bedrock is pretty soli...
