Re: CPU fan questions.

Well, still a problem with this li'l ol' fan! I bought one from eBay and although it had correct fittings (I'm told it's a Socket 754-fit ) for both fan and plug, when changed over I got an error message saying that the fan speed was too low. Sent back to seller who exchanged it for another ... stil...

Re: CPU fan questions.

Thanks Stan. I was going to post this in Gen Tech Help but took the wrong choice. Tried to butcher one from an old abandoned PC here but it was an 80 x 80. I'll look on eBay and buy the right one.

CPU fan questions.

The one on my antique PC was sounding quite squeaky, grindy and was varying a bit in it's speed. Knowing nothing about this but knowing a bit about other stuff, I removed it, found a reasonable bit of play in the shaft so I gently lubed it a bit and it sounds OK and the speed has settled down. Anoth...

Re: Just curious, HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Delighted to see that I'm by no means the oldest here at 62. :P .... despite having recently been told that I look like a hard-drinking 61 year old! :(

Re: Newbie taking a chance .....

When closing down, I can Turn Off, Restart but the Standby button is greyed out so I can't use it. The 'Standby' option will continue to remain disabled until you resolve your video driver issues - it's directly related. OK, thanks again to you both. It is XP Pro and the lack of 'Standby' is a mino...

Re: Newbie taking a chance .....

Thanks again Pierre. I've installed VLC Media Player from your recommended site and it's certainly helped ..... may I chance my arm with another small problem? When closing down, I can Turn Off, Restart but the Standby button is greyed out so I can't use it. This seems to have disabled itself roughl...

Newbie taking a chance .....

... by asking a non-Firetrust question. Whilst I belong to quite a few cycling / car forums, this is possibly my best shot for advice about computer stuff. Flame barrier up in case it's inappropriate. I'm running Windows XP Pro (yup, more old stuff ) and am having trouble with distorted images on Wi...

Re: Mailwasher settings seem to have changed ...

I think I've got it!! :D

It was Pierre's detailed guidelines that allowed this old duffer to make sense of it all but everyone's help was appreciated. :bow

FWIW, MWP v.3.3 continues to provide excellent service to us here .... as non-experts, we''d be lost without it.

Many thanks to you all. :cheers

Re: Mailwasher settings seem to have changed ...

It's been a long time since I used Outlook Express - can't remember if the setting 'Leave on server' is really available on Outlook Express Yes, it's Outlook Express and I can't find anything on there like 'Leave on Server'. Whilst it's not really a big thing to download into OE and then re-visit M...

Re: Mailwasher settings seem to have changed ...

Nothing to do but go in and change your mail program's options back to what you originally had, look for "leave mail on server" and turn it off. Thanks for your prompt reply Stan but I can't find anything like this command in there. It's a very old version that was upgraded for a contribu...

Mailwasher settings seem to have changed ...

As it's my first posting, hi to all of you. I'm using one of the early Mailwasher Pros and it seems to have changed itself .... (not guilty, m'lud). Before a couple of days ago once the selected mail had been processed / deleted / bounced and opened in Outlook Express, when I went back to Mailwasher...
