Suddenly the MWP 6.1 new notification sound won't play and the systray icon appears but doesn't flash. I deleted training.dat and restarted, but to no avail.
Any suggestions?

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
You need to perform the free 6.5.4 upgrade
Ensure also that your settings are in line with the following:-

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Hi there. I'm having the same problem, which seems to have started last week. I have been using 6.5.4 for a long time, and this is my first brush with this issue.
I reinstalled mailwasher pro, to no effect. The conditions for a notification are being met:
1. MWP is minimized
2. There is at least one new non-spam message
3. The appropriate settings are ticked in options
Still, no sound, no blinking icon.
Any help greatly appreciated.

There's another essential condition to be met:-
- The MWP window should not be be in focus at the time of notification.

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Thanks so much for your prompt response.
Yes, the last condition is also fulfilled: MWP is minimized (to the taskbar) and does not have focus. I send myself a test email: nada... no blinking icon, even though MWP has correctly contacted the server and my test message is waiting for me when I restore MWP.
I am stumped.

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but I'm having the same issue as the other poster with the sound, as well. Just btw, when Tbird receives the mail, its sound & icon operate as expected. I'm using XP... are there registry entries that could have been corrupted?
Thanks for your help.

If the above illustration did not work for you, is your sound file able to play independently - without MWP? I mean are you able to successfully play (and also hear) that sound file when you use your Windows default player (without MWP)?

Not at all, the last illustration was for your benefit, too - did you try it?pbelisle wrote:Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, . . . . .

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Yes, did all that, albeit with the XP interface, and everything works fine outside of MWP. That is, the mailwasher sound (notify.wav) plays just fine and I can hear it... it's just that MWP doesn't play it, nor does the icon blink!
Mysterious little problem. It's just that I've become so used to MWP alerting me of new mail that I forget to look if it doesn't alert me.

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Can you scroll up to my first illustration (the single one) and using that as a reference try the following:-
01.) Un-check (disable the following 2 options)
03.) Restart your system
04.) Run MWP to check (re-enable) the following 2 options you disabled
Does this reset your MWP sound options?

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Hi again.
Nope, doesn't do anything.
But I did notice something: Windows itself no longer plays the startup and shutdown WAVs, even though they are enabled in the sound panel (and are audible when you test them).
I suppose the other thing I could do would be to set up another account on this machine ("test") and then install mailwasher & tbird there and see if the icon & sound work for another user.
Or, I could just declare myself beaten and learn to check MWP by myself every 10 minutes or so !!

Your Windows might/might not; complain that some entries were not able to be deleted due to (blah, blah, blah) - just ignore all of that. The results would be immediate.

That would work, as well - however, moving data to the new profile (and then re-configuring everything) would be time consuming and besides you would never get to learn the cause and the fix, though.pbelisle wrote:I suppose the other thing I could do would be to set up another account on this machine ("test") and then install mailwasher & tbird there and see if the icon & sound work for another user.

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Good day.
I tried the registry change after the backup, but no effect. Windows came back & said (unable to delete all values). In any event, no effect on startup or shutdown, no music.
You are right, though, installing MWP on another machine wouldn't prove/disprove anything.
I'll keep on monitoring this thread via email in case someone comes up with a solution, but otherwise, I'll just commit to checking MWP manually. Thanks for your efforts!

Re: MWP 6.1 notifications problem
Thanks.
I followed the steps (with the exception of checking off the "play sound at startup box" which doesn't exist in XP). Everything works fine, but still no sound or icon.
I'm afraid I value notification more than mailwashing, so I've stopped using MWP and am relying on the filtering abilities of Thunderbird.
Thanks again for the effort!
