We can now point others to this thread when they have SpamCop queries - good work.

Today the trial period ran out of the Pro version. With that SpamCop reporting become dysfunctional. So I decided to try the free 2012 1.20.1 version. I liked the looks of it very much, but although it had the option for SpamCop reporting it seemed, that did not work in this free version for me. A small purple SP square and a box to check SP reporting showed, and my SP report data was there -saved when I un-installed the now expired version- but I saw no way to report to SP.

but those little icons for spam reporting did not appear in this free 2012 1.20.1 version. I send myself a test email, and could mark it as spam by hitting the "thumb down" button, but no option to send it on to SpamCop appeared.

Maybe I overlooked something in the free 1.20.1 version, but I just downloaded/installed the free 6.5.4 version, and SP reporting works fine now. (While typing the last sentence I successfully reported my first spam to SP.)

I don't mind an MW error message sporadically because I mixed the Incoming -Alice- and Outgoing -GMX- accounts. I have to, otherwise SP reporting doesn't work with my ISP Alice blocking it.

I know it gets confusing, my apologies. The tutorial was originally written when I was using the 6.5.4 "Old is Gold" PRO version. That one expired yesterday, so I tried the new 2012 1.20.1 FREE version. But I couldn't get SpamCop reporting to work in that version, so I changed it for the FREE 6.5.4. version. The tutorial works for both those PRO and FREE versions of 6.5.4. And I'm glad it does.

One last thing:

Would it be possible to have MW leave the emails on the server for some time even after those emails have already been fetched?

I don't see that option in MW's Settings. The reason I'm asking is that in my Opera Mail client there is the option to have it remove the emails from the server after a number of days I can choose to set.

If not, it's no biggie. If the option would be there, I could only go to my ISP's email site in case by mistake I would have had MW Process -delete- an email I still wanted. The email would still be there until MW or my Opera Mail had removed it after a number of days.

This scenario of by mistake having MW delete an email I still wanted has not happened so far, as I'm always careful to first hit "Mail Program" in MW which opens Opera, have Opera fetch the mail, and only then return to MW and have it process it away.

But if that "Delete after # of [ ] days" option would also be there in MW 6.5.4, I wouldn't mind knowing it.

MW always leaves the mail on the server until you mark it for deletion and wash mail.

There is no setting to leave the mail as it is the default and unchangeable behavior.

If MW left spam mail on your server it would then be loaded into your mail client the next time it checked. Mail left on your server by your mail program will be shown in MW on the next check unless you are using IMAP and move it out of the inbox.

There will be no changes to MW v6, 6.54 is the last version and no more work will be done on the v6 branch unless something very unusual happens that motivates Firetrust to spend a big pile of time and money since they have no programmers working with the v6 code or even the language it is written in. You are beating a dead horse.

You can always enable the recycle bin and set your spam throttle to a comfortable number.

Another option that works for many folks is a program called Hamster http://hamster.arcornews.de/tgl/hamster ... 1.0.11.zip and the SSL options http://forum.firetrust.com/download/file.php?id=464 and let it keep a copy of all your incoming mail. I tend to trim the mail in the incoming folder down once in a while by moving blocks of 20,000 messages to an empty folder since Windows XP tends to choke on really big directories.
