I use the desktop (Windows 7.1) for 11 months of the year.
I use the tablet (Windows 8.1) when I go on holiday for one month of the year.
Email account is POP.gmail.com
Email client is Thunderbird 45.0, set to leave emails on the server until I delete them - I do want to keep them there!
I want to be able to use the tablet for email starting from (for example) today.
How do I update the 'message list' on the tablet so that it doesn't need to download all the email for the previous 11 months before it gets to 'today'?
MailWasher must store 'pointers' (or equivalent info) somewhere that should be transferable from the desktop onto the tablet. Where?
Thanks for any help.

Try using Recent Mode https://support.google.com/mail/answer/47948?hl=en should do what you want

Thanks for your reply. I tried "Recent Mode" a couple of years ago but if I remember correctly, it takes a further 30 days to 'clean up after itself' when reset back to normal. I was hoping that there was a better (tidier) solution.

GMail does have some other options in the POP settings, where you can enable POP for emails from today instead. Though that would effect all clients not ust MailWasher.

Personally, I have no use for the "Leave messages on the server" — however, did you try changing to the following setting on the Gmail account, in question:—

Hi. Yes, that setting has been set all along - but it has given me an idea! I'll let you know how it goes.
(I still think that transferring MailWasher message "pointers" between machines would be the best solution.)

Just a heads-up — MWP has no direct interaction with any of your e-mail clients (it interacts only with the web server — in your particular case, Gmail.)Dickel wrote:(I still think that transferring MailWasher message "pointers" between machines would be the best solution.)

So, where is the info about which messages have been downloaded stored - in Gmail or MW. Seems to me that if it was in Gmail, then the other machine would also pick this up - but it doesn't of course. The info (pointers or whatever) must be stored on the individual machine, no? Thanks.TrustFire wrote:Dickel wrote:MailWasher must store 'pointers' (or equivalent info) somewhere that should be transferable from the desktop onto the tablet. GMail stores this information. I am surprised that MailWasher on one machine is downloading a different range of messages than the other, that would normally suggest there is something different in the account setups in MailWasher.

BINGO! Entirely my fault for not picking it up sooner - Same Gmail account but I had give the account a different name on each machine. Changed the account name in MW to agree with the other machine and it appears to have solved my problem. Thanks so much for your help - my apologies for not spotting this sooner!rusticdog wrote:GMail stores this information. I doubt that a mere renaming of the same Gmail account would resolve the issue you reported — nonetheless . . . . congrats!Dickel wrote:Changed the account name in MW to agree with the other machine and it appears to have solved my problem.

Now I need to figure out how to be able to download the emails onto both machines.
Re: MailWasher Free 6.5.4 with Gmail on two machines.
I should have qualified. Renaming the account name in one machine to agree with the account name in the other machine got rid of the hundreds of 'old' emails that were showing up on the second machine after a period of unuse. So, that's half of the problem solved anyway!TrustFire wrote:I doubt that a mere renaming of the same Gmail account would resolve the issue you reported — nonetheless . . . . congrats!Dickel wrote:Changed the account name in MW to agree with the other machine and it appears to have solved my problem.
