Is there a hidden option to reduce the POP3 timeout?

I check 25 accounts every 15 minutes and sometimes some of the mail servers are offline, or slow to respond. Often it is the same few that hold up the rest of the processing, even when I use Simultaneous checking. Does anybody know of a way that I can reduce the timeout when polling a POP3 server, to say 10 or 15 seconds, from the default 30?

This is a hard coded value unfortunately, so no way to alter the value.
