To bounce or not to bounce

Sun Aug 09, 2020 3:06 am

I have several email accounts in MW.
I can bounce from my gmail account, not from my business accounts.
I have checked and compared all settings and see nothing that could explain the issue.
Thank you for your help.

Hi there

It's probable that your business accounts are set that you cannot send emails from mailer-daemon@ which is the address MailWasher uses when constructing a bounce.
These days bouncing is only good for making legitimate senders think your email address no longer exists, so not something we'd recommend using much.

I closed my business but still need my mail address for the last things that needs to be done. I do not want to be bothered by new/old clients any more.
So, how do I get mailer-deamon@ in my settings? I don't see it in my gmail account, so no example to follow.

OK sure thing. Let's get some logs then to see what is happening for sure.

Can you first try and bounce a message with the business account, then send me some logs. If you go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter a brief note like 'does not bounce' >> in the Ticket Number field enter chris >> bottom left set your GMail account as the one to send the logs >> Send Logs >> then reply back here so I can check they arrived all OK.

Cheers

I would love to do that, but MW does not check my business mails any more: "Error connecting with SSL" for 2 business accounts and "Access violation at address 1000F7CB in module 'libeay32.dll' for another one. My private mail account and another business mail are still checked normally.
This is only with MW on my PC.
On my iPad MW still checks all mails as normal.

OK. Unfortunately MW 6 uses a very old version of SSL that some email providers are dropping support for.
If you want to just bounce back some on the business address then the newer MW Free would do fine, it just supports one account, but has the newer SSL libraries needed to check and bounce.

I have 5 business accounts, all with the same email provider. Three give the SSL error, 2 don't. I don't think it's dropped support that causes the error.
I tried to install MW Free, but it kicked off my old MW version. That is no option.

OK sure.
Can you try sending a debug file. It's not the nicest process, details on how to create one are here

If you can send it to me at forum@firetrust.com

Cheers
