I'm a total newbie. I've downloaded Mailwasher free version and this is installed on my PC. When I press Check Mail nothing at all is displayed. I get a message saying Checking Mail for last 7 days and then it just shows 'Idle' without displaying any emails. Why might this be please?

Could be either the mail check is failing or there are no new emails to display?
If there are new emails on the server, are you using MW 6 or 7? (check under Help>>About if unsure) as you have posted this in the MW 6 area.
If it is MW6, there could be any number of reasons for this, first, click Settings>>Email Accounts, click the problem account and check your POP3/IMAP server and username is correct, and re-type your password.
Click OK to save any changes.
When checking mail, look at the bottom taskbar in MW (or above the preview pane if you are displaying that) to see if does appear to be checking mail OK, it'll tell you there what it is doing during the mail check... eg, connecting, logging in, downloading xx mail etc....

Yes, it could be either the mail check is failing or there are no new emails to display. If new emails are on the server, verify your email settings under "Settings >> Email Accounts" to ensure the POP3/IMAP server and username are correct, and re-enter your password. If you're using MW6, check the taskbar or preview pane to see the mail check status and any possible errors. If issues persist, it might be a connectivity or server issue.
