Mailwasher downloads emails but email client doesn't

Fri Apr 27, 2018 10:22 am

Judging from the date of the previous posts this issue of not being able to download e-mail if the .b9 suffix is in use in the mail server address is not new. I am using Windows Live Mail and until a few weeks ago Benign was working just great. Then It stopped working and I could not download e-mail and got an error message 0x800CCC0E. When I removed the .b9 suffix in the mail server address I could then down load the e-mail but of course Benign did not work.
Is there a solution to this situation? Must I permanently forgo the use of Benign?
Your help will be appreciated.

Moved this into it's own topic, rather than dig up the old.

Has anything at all changed that you can think of ? AntiVirus, some other update from ISP ? etc...

Dear Rustic Dog,
Thanks for your reply. I do not know of anything specific that could have affected the Benign program. A problem arose in Windows Live Mail that was evidenced when I could not down load e-mail from the server. I sought help from a friend here who is a professional business software specialist. He looked at what was going on and how e-mail was downloaded by Windows Live Mail.. Apparently one thing he noticed was the .b9 that was added at the end of the server download identification. He removed the .b9 and then I could download e-mail but it was not being filtered by Benign. I went back and added the .b9 and lo and behold the same error message came up and I could not download my e-mail. So again removed the .b9 and at present I can download e-mail but of course it is not filtered by Benign.
That is the situation and it appears that the problem is not Benign but the Windows Live Mail. Are you aware of anything that can be done to rectify the situation. This must have happened to other people and I am seeking your advice.
Sincerely,

It is going to be possible that B9 will no longer function, it is quite dated, it's possible a Windows Update has killed it.

When you add the .b9 back into the server setting, you also need to click the Advanced tab in WLM, have the Incoming port set to 110 and "This server requires a secure connection" to be unchecked. Try that first and let me know.

Thanks

Dear Rustic Dog,
The incoming port in WLM is set to 995. This appears to be the glitch in the system. Is it possible to set the Benign Options/Accounts from its present setting of 110 to 995 to agree with WLM? I tried but could not get Benign to accept the change to incoming setting of 995. Is it possible to do so? I could not add another account in Benign so the present one would be 110 and a second one would be 995. Should this be possible? Do you have any other suggestions how I can get Benign functioning to filter incoming e-mail?
With best regards,

B9 doesn't support SSL. So you can only use port 110 in that (995 is for SSL connections), if Frontier are now requiring SSL, then it will no longer function.

To be honest I think at this point you'd be better not using B9, we don't update the software and a modern email client handles things well enough, and will support end to end encryption, which these days I think is more important.

Dear Rustic Dog,
I have not heard from my friend here who is assisting me in resolving this problem. He must be tangled up with his business. I wanted to let you know that I will be out of town myself for about 5 days starting tomorrow. I will be back in touch with you as soon as I get back. My hope is that the problem can be resolved and that I will be able to continue using Benign.
Until then, best regards,
Slim2
