Hello,

I received Benign free with Mailwasher Pro.

I'm wondering if it's OK to use alongside Norton Antivirus? Just don't want to screw something up that is working perfectly well...

Yeap should be fine. B9 will rewrite the email as it's downloaded, Nortons at the same time will be intercepting the traffic and monitoring for viruses.

Does this apply to all anti-virus programmes? I use Sky Sweeper, but B9 still reports lots and lots of rewritten e-mails.

By the way, I used Mailwasher years ago, but gave up because it slowed my e-mail down to a snail's pace. The new version is great and seems to be working really well (or should that post be on the Mailwasher section of the blog?

I'm not aware of any AV programs B9 won't run with, so as far as I know, yes.

Glad you like the new MailWasher as well, the new new one we are working on should also be a lot better

Have just installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and it did not like Benign at all So I've had to uninstall Benign in order to receive e-mails into Outlook Express. There again I guess Kaspersky will sort any problems in incoming messages.

I doubt that Kaspersky looks for the sorts of things B9 is geared to though.

That's a shame, and yeah B9 was written to be a little different. You could ask Hamish too at the B9 support email addy, he might know how to make it work nicely with Kaspersky if possible.

I'm working from home for a few days, and I'm not too keen on putting Kaspersky on the laptop. I can do it later sometime at work on a virtual machine when I'm next in the office, probably will be next week though.

Will leave well alone for now ... let the heart rate subside after yesterday! Things seem to be running OK for now and at least MailwasherPro is working well so any spurious e-mails are already weeded out.
