Hi,
After I download and read my email on Windows Live Mail, Mail Washer used to automatically delete those downloaded emails from Mail Washer when I clicked Process Mail. However, it no longer accomplishes that task. I just installed Windows 11Pro and of course, had to install the latest version of Mail Washer.
What do I need to change in order have Mail Washer automatically delete downloaded emails? Mail Washer installed is: 7.12.188.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
Joe

Re: Mail Washer not deleting messages.
Yes, this sounds like one of 3 things.....
----------------------
First though, please note that Mailwasher does not actually download or keep a copy of the mail, it just checks it on the server and displays a portion of the message so you
can then see if it is spam and decide to delete, or keep it, any mail MW shows is simply mirrored from your ISP's mail server.
----------------------
1.) you just need to check mail again in MWP to clear the screen.
2.) you have got WLM setup to leave a copy of the message on the server.
1. Open WLM and Click Accounts.
2. On the Accounts page, click Properties.
3. On the Properties page account, on the Advanced tab, under Delivery, make sure Leave a copy of messages on server is NOT selected.
Click OK.
3.) You have the email account setup as IMAP (OR HTTP) in WLM there.
You'll need to either change this to a POP type account in WLM or leave WLM closed, setup the account as IMAP in MWPro also, and set MWPro to NOT download read emails.
Note however, if IMAP in WLM, WLM will do the following:
- always download the emails automatically,
- never remove any mail from the mail server
- If you delete an email from webmail, WLM OR MWPro, it'll be deleted from all 3.
If you want to change to POP in WLM, the easiest way to do this is to setup a new email account in WLM, but this time ensure it is POP3 type, with auto mail checking disabled
Once you have it all up and running, delete the IMAP account from WLM.
OR, you can change to IMAP within MWpro under Settings>>Accounts, click your email account, click the Incoming tab, and beside "Server Type:" select IMAP in place of POP.
Click save to save changes.
Then, in MWPro click, Settings>>Accounts, click your email account, and click the Incoming tab>>Advanced, and ensure that, "Download read emails" is not ticked there.
This way, it wont show all your old emails that are on the mail server.

Re: Mail Washer not deleting messages.
Hi gingbat,
Thanks for the quick reply. Followed your instructions and by the time I got that done, Mail Washer got rid of the emails. BTW, I had the email as POP and SMTP since that is what our internet provider requires. My main "online" emails don't directly get sent to me. They make one extra stop before Mail Washer downloads them to Windows Live Mail.

Re: Mail Washer not deleting messages.
Not a problem Joe! just FYI on this however....
Although it appears MW sends mail to your email program, it does not....Mailwasher never ever sends, transfers or moves any email on to your email program.
- Mail arrives on the mail server.
- Mailwasher checks for new mail on the mail server and displays it. The email will remain on the mail server.
- Mailwasher deletes the unwanted mail from the mail server.
- Good remaining mail stays on the mail server.
- Your email program starts and downloads the remaining email from the mail server all by itself.
You see Mailwasher is not involved in the process getting the email from the mail server to your email program...
Cheers!
