... by asking a non-Firetrust question.
Whilst I belong to quite a few cycling / car forums, this is possibly my best shot for advice about computer stuff. Flame barrier up in case it's inappropriate.
I'm running Windows XP Pro (yup, more old stuff ) and am having trouble with distorted images on Window Media Player version 9.00.00.3367, an OEM version. Some of my saved mp3 video files now have distorted colour and I'm pretty sure that it's the video card in my PC. A few other cards have been tried but with no success.
My question is this ... is there a free download out there that would allow me a better chance of viewing mp3 videos than Windows Media Player? The distorted videos did work OK until a few months ago so presumably it's not them. I'm also assuming that a newer version of WMP would have the same effect.
Thanks in advance.

Did you try Media Player Classic Home Cinema? BTW, mp3 is for songs - not videos.Victor Kish wrote:My question is this ... is there a free download out there that would allow me a better chance of viewing mp3 videos than Windows Media Player?

Re: Newbie taking a chance .....
Thanks again Pierre. I've installed VLC Media Player from your recommended site and it's certainly helped ..... may I chance my arm with another small problem?
When closing down, I can Turn Off, Restart but the Standby button is greyed out so I can't use it. This seems to have disabled itself roughly at the same time as my WMP problems started happening.
Any ideas as to how I can try and rectify this?

Re: Newbie taking a chance .....
Please clarify your question. I assume you are talking about Window XP SP3 or Windows 7?

The 'Standby' option will continue to remain disabled until you resolve your video driver issues - it's directly related.Victor Kish wrote:When closing down, I can Turn Off, Restart but the Standby button is greyed out so I can't use it.

OK, thanks again to you both. It is XP Pro and the lack of 'Standby' is a minor issue that I can live with.TrustFire wrote:The 'Standby' option will continue to remain disabled until you resolve your video driver issues - it's directly related.Victor Kish wrote:When closing down, I can Turn Off, Restart but the Standby button is greyed out so I can't use it.
