I'm sure there are lots of Americans who have no idea what that creature on the cans of shoe polish is, but no harm educating them.
I remember when I was little, there was a comic strip around here called "Kiwi." The name let people know what the character that looked like a hairy ball with legs and a beak was. It was popular with kids, since it was easy enough for us to draw, though I don't recall it being particularly funny. It must have been some local Philadelphia/Wilmington area thing, as I have never seen any reference to it since. (It may seem odd that a local strip here would feature a kiwi bird, but we also had a children's puppet show on TV called "Bertie the Bunyip," and I never did get any explanation of what a bunyip is.)

Not all that hard to keep straight unless your brain is frozen from being covered in snow 6 months out of the year. Not a problem for me, it is 85F / 29C here today.
