Re: Another earthquake.
Sorry to hear about your mutt. We used to have a pure bred Golden Retriever but she went blind and it was killing us to see her in that state. We ended up getting a vet to take her away and put her to sleep. The irony is that the neighbours had the two uncles of our dog and they developed the same symptoms. Think it was a case of inbreeding too much as they all came from the same place.

My condolences! I never had a dog, but that must be very difficult.rusticdog wrote:On a sad note, Fat Boy aka Luka Kreuger was put to sleep tonight

Always tough to lose a pet but there is no sense in hanging on to one that is suffering. Remember the good years.

Re: Another earthquake.
I'd like to offer my condolences as well RD. Over the years I've gone through the same thing more times than I care to think about myself so I know how you must be hurting inside. Give it some time and time does heal, at least to some extent. You'll never forget the good times and that's the important part.rusticdog wrote:On a sad note, Fat Boy aka Luka Kreuger was put to sleep tonight, at the ripe old age of 10 his back legs gave out suddenly so we made the decision to get the vet out, rather than have him suffer. Given too he weighs about 55kg (120 pounds) it's not an easy dog to assist in mobility. Here he is in his glory days (about 5 years)....

@RD Sorry for your loss. They are truly man's best friend - I have found over the years that the best solution to your loss is to not wait and go find another loveable puppy. It will help loads.

Re: Another earthquake.
Thanks folks
It was the girlfriends dog, she'd had him for the full 10 years, I just tagged along these last 3, so she's doing it tough. Though we'll no doubt get another dog, the girlfriend did the website for a local rehoming agency www.dogwatch.co.nz and often keeps in touch, I think taking on an abandoned dog rather than going pure-breed this time around would be good.

And we've got snow again, which is unusual having twice....now instead of it being the biggest winter blast in last 15 years or so, this one is the biggest 'in living memory'.

I'll take water in whatever form it manifests itself here in Texas. Less than 0.25" rain all summer long ... so far.
We've got lakes disappearing (drying up) due to the draught.

I'd be happy to send you some... after last weeks rain I was almost inclined to buy a rubber dinghy, just to be prepaired..QuietOne wrote:I'll take water in whatever form it manifests itself here in Texas. Less than 0.25" rain all summer long ... so far.![]()

One suggestion though, you might reconsider that "rubber" dinghy. You all live far too close to a lot of salt water that does a number on the longevity and usefulness of "rubber" goods. Find yourself another variety of dinghy.

One would have thought these modern "rubbers" would be equal to the salty fluids that mother Nature spilled so lavishly, all over this beautiful planet.
Guess I'd better build my own Kon-Tiki then. I'm well out of Balsawood rightnow, so the pinetree in the back of the garden will have to make do....

On it's way! Plse note: the renowned firm of Clouds & Windy wouldn't give me an estimated time of delivery, but one thing is certain: They always deliver..... in the end !!QuietOne wrote:Send away! Oh well, better slow, than no. TNX!
Just glad to do what I can.
Re: Another earthquake.
Yeah, and I suspect...given the local tradewinds, that the relief effort may well take the circuitous route.racker wrote:On it's way! Anytime I can be of assistance. Re: Another earthquake.
Careful what you wish for. In NJ where my daughter's family lives got 9.64" or rain yesterday. 3-4' if water rushing across their driveway. Three bridges in the area gone and major road damage. This morning there were still multiple roads that were still closed. Big problems.QuietOne wrote:Send away! I'll take it!!!!![]()

And while I grant you, I'd rather have it come in many more but smaller doses, Texas is getting rather desperate for H2O.

You din't read my previous. We've got lakes drying up and blowing away out here. It'll take a might bit more than 9+" to fill 'em back up.Sidewinder wrote:Careful what you wish for.
