Monitor Status Graphs and totals

Well, it's up and running, but I'm not sure if it's doing what it should.

Monitor Status Graphs and totals

Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:34 am

I upgraded to version 2.8.0.0 {w} from 2.7.8.1{w} yesterday..

The daily counts seem to have gotten fouled up.. we routinely check the stats through out the day..

Our daily incoming emails is around 600-900 legit emails a day Mon-Fri, and about 200-300 on Sat-Sun

yesterday the daily counts rose to over 10,000.. but after the End of day it seems to have almost corrected itself to about 1,000 processed for Tuesday..and about 200 processed for Monday in the over all counts.. seems the day is off by one day on the overall stats

Here it is Wednesday, and it is not even 8:00Am yet, and the daily count is a little over 2,900 processed

When I looked in the tracking section I do not see any unusually high activity, and our quaraintine levels are dropping very quickly..(good thing) we have less then 450 Messages in the 7 day quarantine..

Any thoughts?

Hi there, it looks like a timing issue in that in might have been shut down before changes were applied to the stats. It will update the stats properly the next day.

yes, that is exactly what it did on tuesday, the tuesday daily count was up over 10,000 proccessed, then reset it self to what appears to be correct levels of about 1,000 at EOD.

Now on wednesday, it appears it is doing the samething.. 2:15PM and almost 6,000 processed..

It now seems like it is over reporting the daily stats by a mutiple of 1,000.. then at the EOD it recounts and lists the correct totals in the Overall chart..

Hmm, we've not seen that ever before. Can you let us know if it's still happening tomorrow?

Nick,

Well... it did not adjust the overall totals on the EOD rollover... I have also been reciveing complaints from end users expecting emails telling me that they are getting bounce backs and not the Normal MWES 5.5.0 rejected as possible SPAM messages.

They are getting delivery delay messages, so... I downgraded back to 2.7.81{w}, and the counts seemed to have stabilzed again, and those missing emails are being delivered from what I can see in the system tracking Monitor..

Not sure what is up with the new version, but it almost works to well.. blocking good stuff and bad stuff before it hit our server ...

Ok, we're a bit perplexed by this as we didn't alter anything around this and no one else has reported this problem either.

I wonder if the database has become corrupted somehow? It could happen by going up a version then back. You could clear the database out but I guess you don't want to do that.

Nick,

Yup, I agree it is a puzzler..

We started with MWES 2.7.7 after switching from the Open source MWES which was completely uninstalled first. With every upgrade I made a backup of the entire MWES folder, and did an inplace over the top upgrade and it has worked flawlessly every time.. I have not expericenced any of the other issues I have seen in the forums about runaway CPU usage hitting 100% etc..

It has be one of the most stable applications we use since we got the product 9 months ago to the day, we bought MWES on 6/24/2010

MWES continues to be one of the best applications in general I have come across, easy to install..easy upgrades, easy to use.. etc..

I could understand if we developed these problems after a downgrade... BUT the downgrade fixed the issues we were having..

For now I am content that the issue has been resolved by the downgrade.. and I can live with 2.8.71 {w}..

Will I try to upgrade again with the next release? you bet.. this one little hiccup in an upgrade will not deter us from continuing to use MWES..

What is the procedure to clear the database? If I were to try to clear the database would that wipeout out our White lists, black lists and custom filters?

Thanks Sam,

We try to improve the stability with every build and this version has a lot of small improvements so hopefully it's bulletproof now :)

Next versions will give the look an overhaul and we'll add lots of pre-built filters which people can use. Plus some more management types of things like better graphs etc.

You could delete the database and it will generate another one, but you will lose blacklists and whitelists (which we'll add in an export/import feature - its on the list to be done), but you can export your filters. The database is an SQLite database and you can look at it via something like the Firefox plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefo ... e-manager/

Next time you upgrade we'll get you to increase the logging level so we can get some more information and see what's going on

My stats are all over the place as well. The totals keep going down, then back up again. Its not really a big deal for me so long as the system functions well, which it does.
