How Many X's do you have to mark a domain blacklisted before it auto-deletes?

Thu Aug 13, 2020 4:44 am

I am using version 7.12.38 on a trial. I have 9 days.

I have struggled a bit to find out where it helps eliminate labor. But in this forum some good person told me next step was to auto delete. I've done that. Maybe it's working. I still get tons of SPAM mail I have to BLACKLIST everyday and it seems to be a lot of the same domains and/or senders. That's my issue. Not new spammers but ones already blacklisted.

Why am I having to mark it as blacklisted everyday? I'm not sure about how to use this option where you give a + or - number. Seems the higher the + the more okay, and the lower the - the less okay.

But bottom line the ones I blacklist, many of them maybe not all, come through everyday after being blacklisted.

Since many of you here are obviously liking the program what am I doing wrong. Is it that these same domains change just one letter or number everyday?

Thanks jack :scratch

To auto-delete emails flagged just as blacklisted, do that under Settings >> Spam Tools >> Blacklist >> Options.

If you also want to auto-delete emails that MailWasher is certain to be spam, then under Settings >> Spam Tools >> Spam Ratings >> set the auto-delete and throttle. I would start at around -140 and reduce to up to -100 is necessary.
As mentioned earlier, I would also make very good use of the Friends List and be sure all legitimate senders are on that list (including newsletters you want). This helps train MailWasher properly and also helps prevent accidental deletes with blacklisting.

Thank you. Although you are kind the answer is still not there. How many times does one have to blacklist the same sender and the same message or whatever they are selling. Seems the ones I blacklist, and set to auto-delete are showing up again and again. I do have the auto-delete set. I'll continue to work as you suggested however.

OK sure, if you have the blacklist set to autodelete, then you should not be seeing any emails come in with the status 'blacklisted'. If you think you've already blacklisted the sender and it shows up then something is not working correctly.

One thing to quickly try is under Settings >> General >> Checking Mail >> set the Spam Throttle to 350-500 lines per email >> restart MailWasher.

If you are asking about domains/senders you haven't yet blacklisted, then the number of times can be limitless. Sender information is easily forged, and that's where these addresses are just constantly shifting. That's where the Learning can kick in and you can auto-delete emails based off what you say are spam/good using the thumbs down/up.

I have looked at what you said. I had 5 blacklisted in the grid. I left them alone. Changed the throttle. Restarted and they are gone on restart. Does that make sense? Seems to me it shows your point. I didn't delete the messages but they were gone.

Success? Thanks! jack ":-}
