Exlude "Friends" from filter?

Sat Feb 13, 2021 9:10 am

I set up a filter for SEO and "Search Engine Optimization". It works except that I did not want emails from senders I have designated as "Friend" to be included. I have emails grouped by status, and I would like ALL "Friends" to be grouped under "Friends". This works as far as general spam scoring - Friends stay in the Friends status group - but when it comes to filters I create, not so.

How do I exclude Friends from being grouped under a custom spam filter? I am never interested in reading unsolicited emails about SEO - thus my filter - but I do want emails in newsletters I subscribe to.

By the way, I have relied on Mailwasher Pro for years to save me invaluable time and sanity dealing with spam. Also, searches usually take just a few seconds, whereas in Outlook (or Thunderbird, which I have also tried), searches take much longer. I use POP3 and leave messages on my server for 30 days so Mailwasher can find them that far back (and also I won't lose them if my regular email program database get corrupted). (Feel free to use this paragraph in a testimonial if you like.)

Thanks!

Hi Margaret

You have a couple of options. First, is create a filter specifically to match your Friends List, do that create the new filter, beside Add Rule click the drop down and select Spam Tool Rule >> it should default to Sender is on my Friends List.
Set the filter to tag these emails as Good, and then once complete you can use the arrows buttons for Filter Priority to move this Friend filter above your SEO filter.
MailWasher checks filters from the top and kicks out when a match is found, so by doing this you would prevent all Friends from being checked against filters underneath.

Option 2 : Is edit your existing filter using the same method above to add the Spam Tool Rule, but instead select the 'Sender is not on my friends list' and change the filter to match ALL rules, not ANY. However this only works well if your existing filter has one rule presently, if you have many rules in the filter the ALL option won't play nice.
