I have to say, this update to MailWasher is less than impressing me. If there was a suitable alternative, then I'd have moved to that by now.
Multiple instances of "Microsoft Edge WebView2" (msedgewebview2.exe) constantly running while MailWasher is in the background. I don't recall this much bloat in the previous version.
More importantly, what are Firetrust going to do about all this bloat as a result of using the Edge renderer? Or do they just expect us to use what now amounts to bloat?

Re: Multiple instances of "Microsoft Edge WebView2" constantly running while MailWasher is in the background
Yes, sorry but windows has stopped support for IE6 and MW needs to run something to display html emails if required so the Edge web viewer (unfortunately ) was the next option...
Had a couple of users report they've removed webview manually without any adverse effects, (not tried it myself) however it wont of course display html emails correctly after doing that...

Re: Multiple instances of "Microsoft Edge WebView2" constantly running while MailWasher is in the background
I first thought this was an Edge problems since I first noticed it after an Edge update came out.
Thanks for the explanation gingbat, but now it raises more questions. Why multiple instances? Why doesn't MW close them when done?
I am glad, after so many long years, we no longer have to deal with the problem of Mailwasher calling up the obsolete Internet Explorer. But it seems it is just trading one frustration for another.
@atiamplan - while not a fix, I have a workaround(?). I created a shortcut to taskkill Edge Webview2. It works instantly with no ill effects. To create it, click on a blank portion of your desktop and select New > Shortcut.
Then enter (or copy and paste) into the Location text box, the following: C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /F /T /IM msedgewebview2.exe
Then pick a name and click "Finish". Your shortcut should appear on your desktop. Move it to a convenient place for you.
Note the above assumes Windows is installed on the C drive and in the default locations.
Then a quick double click will immediately kill all instances of WebView2.

Thanks for sharing the task kill I agree the process should be killed after mailwasher has finished with it, maybe this can be added to the version 8 release.

One of the recent βeta versions has fixed this issue — all WebView2 sub-processes (under the MailWasher process) . . . now, get terminated automatically the moment MailWasher is closed.

Has this been fixed? Should I load a beta version? Really annoying. Thanks!

The latest official beta release does not fix the WebView2 problem.

Hey Digerati, yes, that's odd as no issues at all when I test here... click an email in MWPro and it shows that email in task manager:
Then click the next one and it replaces the previous one....
Close MWPro and everything closes as expected....
What are you seeing there....?

Hmm . . . for me, this issue continues to remain fixed . . . even on the latest volatile βeta 7.12.112.

But that is not the problem I am seeing. Maybe I misunderstood - but the title of this thread says, "While MailWasher Is In The Background".
I just exited MWP. Checked TM and all the WebView2 instances had closed - as expected.
So then I started MWP again. I have mine set to start minimized. Without maximizing MWP - therefore without clicking on any emails - I look in TM again and I see 7 instances of Microsoft Edge WebView. Again, I have not even maximized MW or looked at any emails.
Exit MWP and they all go away.

Yes, when I close (as in "exit", and not just minimize), everything closes as expected.gingbat wrote:Close MWPro and everything closes as expected....

I just ran C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /F /T /IM msedgewebview2.exe and killed all instances of Webview2 and MWP kept right on running. I've checked, processed, and viewed several emails and there still are no running instances of Webview2. So why is MWP starting them when it starts if not needed?
Re: Multiple instances of "Microsoft Edge WebView2" constantly running while MailWasher is in the background
I hope not. One instance is enough. And even then, I don't see what MWP is doing with that program.sounds like ( the new ) normal operation....

Re: Multiple instances of "Microsoft Edge WebView2" constantly running while MailWasher is in the background
Yes, MW needs to run webviewer to display html based emails, I'm no programmer so can only assume it starts the process automatically so it's ready to go when a user clicks on an html email.
