AutoWash / Automatically "Wash Mail"

Thu Aug 10, 2017 4:15 pm

Hi there. Recently became a licensed customer. Happy overall with the product but I would really like to know if there is a way to setup MWP to "AutoWash" mail after the default 10 minute check-for-new-email interval? I have tried messing with the Settings > Spam Tools options and tried enabling the "Auto Delete" options wherever I could find them. But this appears to delete spam mail without giving me an option to review it in the Recyle Bin -- which is not really the desired behavior I want.

So to summarize again...all I want to do is have MWP autocheck for new email every 10 minutes (this is already working, np) AND then automatically "Wash Mail" in a manner which sends all known spam sources to the Recycle Bin tab where I can always review it any time I want. For me, this would be a much better way to "fix" or "teach" MWP about false positives.

Thank you.

This should already be how MailWasher behaves. Are you not seeing emails that auto-delete in the Recycle Bin ?

In the Recycle Bin, near the top right, there is an option to hide auto-deleted, make sure that's unchecked.

I am not seeing this behavior by default. What I'm seeing is the Inbox tab showing all the items it MARKED for washing (spam) in red but I still have to *manually* hit the big Wash Mail button along the top. My *preferred* behavior is that I go straight to the Recycle Bin by default and see everything that MWP automatically washed for me...and THEN I can choose if there were any false positives. In other words, what I want is basically the opposite experience of what I'm seeing right now. Right now it's "preview new email marked for spam then manually WashMail yourself" vs. what I want is "show me Recycle Bin upon launch, and all the apps that were *automatically* Washed and removed from my Inbox...THEN if I see a false positive I can mark it and restore it to my inbox".

Can't think of any way to be more explicit than this. ;-)

Auto Mail Wash is not possible (at least not in it's purest form.)

The exact reason why it's termed as auto-delete — however, mails should be visible in the MailWasher Recycle Bin after being deleted (which is anyways the default behavior — as also mentioned by rusticdog.) ;)

Not really a good idea since there's always this risk of being unable to restore the original e-mail fully (even if the MailWasher Spam Throttle was already stretched to retrieve maximum number of lines.)

I get you now. As noted above by TrustFire, having an aggressive auto-delete does come with risks. As MailWasher will often only retrieve a portion of each email, when you restore a false positive it will only be that portion of the email MailWasher saw.

Also when using auto-delete I'd also encourage you to make good use of the Friends List.

So with those out the way...

Under Settings >> Spam Tools >> Spam Ratings >> here you can set the auto-delete for the sum total. These scores are set by the tools showing above the option and the Learning. I would start around -100 and see how that goes. You can reduce as required, an aggressive number would be -50, and all the way back to -1 would wipe anything MailWasher thought was slightly bad.

OK thanks fellas. I'll consider those options. I just find myself having to manually hit that "Wash Mail" button all the time and now that the filter is 99% accurate, I rarely see false positives -- thus, hitting the "Wash Mail" button becomes rather tedious in day-to-day usage (IMO).

I agree. If the user choses to accept the risks that are mentioned and choses to enable a real auto-wash anyway, then he should be allowed to do it. Maybe a real auto-wash could be made an option rather than the default behavior.
