invocation error after upgrade to 7.12.188

Thu Nov 16, 2023 7:45 pm

After following the prompt to upgrade MailWasherPro in the email send on Wednesday I now recieve the following when trying to open.

The invocation of the constructor on type 'MailwasherPro.FiltersPreview' that matches the specified binding contraints threw an exception.

I've tried unistalling and reinstalling and also going back to the previous version but no luck.

Please help :help

Yes, sorry about that, this 'usually' only occurs when your PC crashes, or has a power cut and MW is shut down expectantly and has no time to save its files, which can cause some file corruption.

Can you please try this first.

Ensure MWpro is closed.

Go to Start, type run (then click the Run file so it runs) then in the ‘Open:’ box type (or copy / paste):

%AppData%\Firetrust\MailWasher

Delete the Startup.xml file and restart Mailwasher....?

------------------------------

If no better, you'll need to do the below please:

(NOTE: this will reset MW to factory settings, you will need to re-enter all your accounts, lists and filters etc into MWPro, Backup directions below if you wish to do this first)

Can you please uninstall, click NO when asked to save your user data, then browse to the following folders (IF there) and delete the contents:

C:\Program Files\Firetrust
C:\Program Files (x86)\FireTrust
C:\ProgramData\Firetrust

(The last folder is actually hidden, so you may need to enable Windows to show hidden files and folders under,
the Windows Control Panel, Folder Options>>View Tab>>Select, Show hidden files and folders.)

Then try reinstalling MWpro, here's the link if you need it:

https://www.firetrust.com/products/mail ... o/download

-----------
To Backup, you just need to save all files from the Help>>User Files folder, (OR backup via File>>Export), or if MW wont start, this folder is under:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\MailWasher

(This folder is actually hidden, so you may need to enable Windows to show hidden files and folders under,
the Windows Control Panel, Folder Options>>View Tab>>Select, Show hidden files and folders.)

If I uninstall MailWasher Pro and don't save user data, is there a way to restore my account list and filters after reinstalling? Among Us

Yes, unless you created a backup, likely they'll be lost sorry, unless possibly windows system restore can be used to return your PC to before you uninstalled it?

I am receiving the same error after updating to version 7.15.19

I have tried deleting the Startup.xml file, reinstalled the program and tried reverting back to the previous version but still getting the error.

How do I backup my settings before removing it and choosing to not save user data? I can't see a backup file or folder in %AppData%\Firetrust\MailWasher

I'm not sure which file or folder I need to look for.

Thank you

Yes, if you cannot start MWPro just save all files and folders under:

%AppData%\Firetrust\MailWasher

(This opens the default user files folder, so wont work if you have used the custom installation option and saved these files elsewhere)

Ok I can save the files and folders but how do I get the settings back into MailWasher once it's reinstalled?

I just realised I was the original poster using the username "astroboy" experiencing the same problem when upgrading last year. Am I the only one getting this error when updating each time you send out an email with a new version?

EDIT: I can't see how to import my old Blacklist now that I have reinstalled MailWasher. When I try to import I can't see a file in my backup folder that refers to blacklist.

Thank You

Yes, just replace the current files under Help>>User Files with those from your backup so it overwrites them.

Just ensure you do that after closing MW however or it wont work.

No good. After doing that, the Blacklist is still completely empty.

Yes, that is odd alright, because if you saved all files from under Help>>User Files, then moved them back later, the program should be identical....

Possibly however the MWP.db3 file was corrupted and causing issues, when you moved it back in, it's failing.

If that is the case, you'll need to delete that file (resetting the friends and blacklist) and re-populate the blacklist yourself manually....

To reset your MWP.db3 database .......

(NOTE: this holds your learning settings, and blacklist/friendslist, so the below will reset these sorry).

If you can start MWPro and it will run OK....

Click Help>>User files in MWPro.
Minimise the folder that opens.
Click File>>Exit to close MWPro.
Maximise the folder, then open the Cache folder.

Then, (With MWPro closed) rename the MWP.db3 file to MWP1.db3 and restart MWPro, let me know how that goes....

Hi gingbat,

I couldn't find any db3 files so just left it and it's been running ok until today when I did an auto update to my Avast Antivirus software and I starting getting the same invocation error that I originally got the other the day.

So I did a full uninstall, deleted the contents of the Program Files and ProgramData folders and reinstall and now I get the attached error after closing Mail Washer and reopening.

If it was working fine before the Avast update, possibly Avast is now blocking MW somehow... .check its blocked list for any reference to MW, note that MW needs to access the folders that open when clicking Help>>User Files and Help>>Common Files in MWpro, so ensure it's not blocking MW's access to those folders also.

Or, remove Avast.... :D

Ok I checked Avast and under Blocked Apps Mailwasher Pro had Ransomware Shield selected. I unticked it and you wouldn’t believe it, Maillwasher Pro is now working again.

Thanks for the suggestion

Merry Christmas
