Hi there
I recently suffered a Windows 10 PC crash which corrupted my account details for Mailwasher Free version 7.12.188. I restored my backup but it didn’t resolve the problem and I had to manually reconfigure the program. Consequently, I am seeking advice as to whether I am saving the correct account details etc.
Until a while ago, I was using a free, online and automatic cloud backup facility provided by BT but it ran into problems as it would not allow me to back up any files held in C:\Users\Phil\AppData\*.*, allegedly to prevent churning. I was then recommended to install Mailwasher in C:\Mailwasher, which since has been successful. The cloud based facility has since been withdrawn by BT and I am now backing up C:\Mailwaher\*.* onto a removable, portable hard drive on a daily basis.
I see there is a file within the C:\Mailwasher folder called Accounts.xml which, as far as I can see, holds the account details and was last updated on 6th March 2025, after I had fixed the problem. I also see that there is a file called Accounts.xml at C:\Users\Phil\AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\MailWasher\Accounts.xml but which is dated 3rd December 2023 and which appears to contain the same settings data as the one on C:\Mailwasher.
Any comments or further advice will be greatly appreciated.
Regards and TIA
Phil

Re: BACKUPS
Yes, you just need to save the contents of whatever folder opens when you click Help>>User Files within MWPro, that's the only one you need to worry about...

Re: BACKUPS
Thanks. That's what I'm doing, which doesn't explain why restoring the backup didn't solve the problem. Hopefully, it won't happen again. :-)

Re: BACKUPS
After this incident, have you considered using a dedicated backup tool (like Macrium Reflect, Acronis or Cobian) to backup both the application profile and the registry? I'm curious if you've ever encountered a situation where you restored the configuration file but the application still didn't recognize it correctly, due to missing registry components or permissions?

Re: BACKUPS
Thanks for the suggestion but it's the first time in my experience that restoring my backup hasn't restored the profile of any application. I've used Macrium Reflect in the past to create images so will give your suggestion some serious thought.
Regards and again, many thanks
