Blacklisting vs. bouncing.

Can anyone let me know that if you blacklist an item does it also need to be bounced? Or would that be redundant? I noticed that when I blacklist something it stil gives me the option to "mark for bouncing" Also is it better to add the domain name or just the sender? Thanks for any help you can give me.

First, are you using the latest version of MWP ... MWP2010?????

Second, "Bouncing" is no longer recommended as it cause more mail to be sent back to legitimate folks who've had their email addresses hijacked by the spammers. So if you "Bounce" your mail, your effectively just helping the spammers instead of hurting them.

Blacklisting and Bouncing are separate entities. Blacklisting places either the individual address or complete domain on a list that will cause future incoming mail to be designated as Blacklisted which adds points to bias the evaluation based on the related user settings toward Spam.
Bouncing should only be used in rare occasions and only then when you are sure of the real sender. Today a lot of spammers are using addresses that belong to other people without their knowledge. I suggest that you search this forum topic regarding the subject. Stan is an excellent authority on it's use.

THanks. I am using the latest version of mailwasher pro. MWP2010. Definitely like it but different to use from the old version.

Not sure I fully understand the "adds points to bias the evaluation" part yet but will do more reading on it.

You can set the number of points the blacklist adds to a message here:

Once you have added that the blacklist will add to the total score of the message:

This is for a friend but black works the same

That score is used to set the classification column, good bad or unknown:

Also if you are feeling brave and only AFTER TESTING you can auto delete. No picture to avoid getting blamed for someone who doesn't test dumping all their mail! :-)
