I understand that a previous user will be charged $10usd for the new version. Will there be a special purchase/upgrade site to go to where we can enter our old password/registrations and be presented with the correct cost? I do not want to fill out a page that does not show the correct price.
The MWP2010 seems to be OK - I will still wait until the very end of the trial period to purchase it, provided there is a clear presentation of costs - present and future....

Re: Cost for Previous Users
Be careful, $10 is not the upgrade price. It is what you pay for the software to work for a year. After that, another $10 a year until you give up.
Word has it that if you install the new version atop an old one, when you press the "Purchase" button it will spot the old licence and offer you the $10 price.

Emails regarding the offer are being sent to current registered users of the old version. FT is sending out these email in batches to insure that new users get the attention they may need for installation and registration. Yeah I suggest wait for the newsletter, you can buy through the program for $10 however the newsletter offers an extra license...so you get 2 for $10

2 for $10...is this permanently the way the licenses will come or just a one time good deal?rusticdog wrote:Yeah I suggest wait for the newsletter, you can buy through the program for $10 however the newsletter offers an extra license...so you get 2 for $10

One time deal, though I cannot say if it actually expires. I'll ask His Royal Cheesiness when I see him next.

Confirmed there's no urgency, it will be on offer for a considerable (read as undetermined) amount of time.

That helps. So now I can have it on my desktop AND laptop. Will it require a second registration code or will one work for both legally? Thanks.rusticdog wrote:Confirmed there's no urgency, it will be on offer for a considerable (read as undetermined) amount of time.

Yeah, the license policy has been altered to one per machine. That said, you obviously get two licenses as will be mentioned in newsletter...but come renewal time, would need 2. Am still not happy with that policy, and will still plug away on thatWill it require a second registration code

Re: Cost for Previous Users
I've been using MW for many years and it's one of the most usefull software pieces I have on my computer. However I completely disagree with the new price policy, I do not intend to pay the annual fee to use it, I think that no one has the right to force me to buy a service I do not want to.
And it's interesting to read a message that was sent me by Mr. Nick Bolton on October 23, 2008, as follows :
As MailWasher has matured, it became more and more difficult to add the features you requested, fix bugs quickly and make it compatible with newer versions of Windows.
We're now working on the next generation of MailWasher. In many respects it will still be the same program you've come to know and work with every day, but ‘under the hood' it will be a very different program.
Changes you'll see:
Speed improvements
Customization options i.e. large fonts, icons etc.
Multilingual capabilities
Improvements to usability and spam detection
The features you've asked for, but we've not been able to deliver - there are so many of these
Better compatibility with future versions of Windows
Easier to setup
As we've always promised, the new version will still be free to existing registered users.
Please pay attention to the last sentence ! Of course I think that's fair to charge the old users a fee to update, but an annual fee to keep the program running is out of question, unfortunately I did buy it already this morning but I should cancel my order and return to the old version 6.5.4 which meet my requirements.

Re: Cost for Previous Users
I am a bit old fashioned and as such must point out several things to firetrust.
(1) Like a previous post said ... note the last sentence:
"As MailWasher has matured, it became more and more difficult to add the features you requested, fix bugs quickly and make it compatible with newer versions of Windows. (2) I expect people to keep their word!
(3) We are in the worst economic downturn since the great depression. Many are calling it the great recession.
(4) After the broken promise above, why should I believe firetrust will continue to update the old Mailwasher?

And, as a very special offer, we get to pay twice as much each year to keep them going. Sounds like something the UK government would do. They're good at stealth taxes.
As a very long time MailWasher user, all I can say is that the coffin is almost nailed shut.
