But we REALLY need a lot more info than 'it's locking up major'. If you want help from people then you need to treat them with some respect and courtesy - as in, describe the problem, what you were doing etc etc. Otherwise you risk getting ignored - which was I was going to do but (given your expressions) thought you might be a younger user (no offence).
I use Office 2007 heaps - and there are many reasons (wholly unrelated to MWP) that might cause this behaviour.
What is your operating system, CPU, memory and have you got all the latest updates / patches for that and Office and your video driver? (Video driver issues cause lots of grief - a simple driver update resolves most). What AV (anti-virus) program are you using - and what was it doing at the time?
Does it happen with a specific document, or all documents, how long does it run before locking up and do you have heaps of other applications running in the background? Is Word the ONLY program having problems - and is your copy legit? (fair questions - lots of people pirate software and I'm not going to waste a second of my time helping them)
A common problem is caused by a corrupt DOT file (default word / excel etc file). It's easily solved.
Also, are you aware MS has an excellent free online product help service? Their techs are brilliant and respond generally within a day or so - I'm working with one now on an unrelated Office / WIN 7 issue and learning heaps in the process. There are also a a slew of excellent online MS user forums from newbie level to real technowizards. Google is a wonderful tool and it's amazing what you can find.
In case you were unaware, there is a diagnostic tool built into each program of Office 2007: click the office button (top left), click "word options", click resources (left column at the bottom of the list), and select "Run Microsoft Diagnostics". Let it do it's thing and see what happens from there.

Re: Word 2007
@ anniebrion - oopsy. Seems I scared him / her away. Now I'll never get any sleep worrying about the Freezing Word mystery
Maybe it was aliens or 'the ghost in the machine' ("I Robot")? They exist you know but at least I'm protected with my tinfoil hat. Can NEVER be too careful about aliens - but what is their major malfunction with all of the anal probing?
Not sure what to do about ghosts but I have a local Exorcist on speed dial just in case.
TTFN (ta ta for now)
