Mailwasher Pro 2010

Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:59 am

I have used the older versions 6.5.3 for a long time so I thought I would purchase the latest version - My big mistake.

It is so slow! I can fire up the older version, look at my mail in the time it takes for the flash screen on 2010 to display.

I shall have to put my rash purchase down to experience. The older version does all I want in half the time. :thumbsdown

If enough of us complain about the speed maybe it will get better, start 2010 up every month or two and grab the latest update to see if it has gotten better. If nothing improves by the end of the year don't renew 2010 and go back to v6.

Why delete it? You just needed to stop it running at startup! I'm sure you not that low on HDD space :scratch

You are quite right - - -

I will re-install it and try it from time to time to see if the 'powers that be', have improved the speed.

If they haven't make sure to tell them you are not happy yet, either here or via e-mail so they have an idea that not all are happy users. They have made great improvements over the last year in speed and with enough user feedback they will have the incentive to keep that as a high priority.

I bought the new version of MailWasher Pro (2010.1.0.10). I received an email this morning from a new correspondent (i.e., one from whom I'd never before received an email). In the MailWasher inbox, I marked the email as good, and selected the Wash Mail command, but the program sent the email to the recycle bin anyway.

Then I went to the recycle bin and tried to restore the email. It indicated that the email was restored, but it never showed up in my MailWasher inbox. After about 15 minutes of trying to get MailWasher to restore the email, I gave up and wrote my correspondent back and asked her to re-send. She did, but after a few minutes, an email fro her did show up in my Email program's inbox -- it never showed up in my MailWasher inbox.

Why, after I marked the original email as good, did it get sent to the recycle bin and why, once there, did it not restore, even though it told me it had?

I did some tests and was able to restore test emails I'd deleted, but it is disturbing that the problem appears to be intermittent and unexplainable.

In general, I find the new version of MailWasher Pro to be inferior to my previous version and generally disappointing. I find the new version to be clunkier, slower, and not as responsive. Maybe I just need to learn it, but this problem (described above) has me worried.

And bear in mind, I'm a MailWasher enthusiast. I've recommended it to many people. But I'm going to hold off doing so in the future until I can get to the bottom of this issue.

Make sure that the delete indicator is not set on good messages either by filters, blacklist etc.

Restores are done back to the Account that the message came from so I suggest that you review that Accounts settings to make sure they are OK. Also some ISP's may reject the incoming message due to the change in header info. Go to Help, Send Support Logs, Add a brief description and refer to this topic. Put Chris in the Ticket number and he will check the logs to see if there is an indication to what is happening.

There is also a separate setting for a fallback account to use for restoring if the original fails. You might want to look to see where it is set and check that account to see if the original message is there.

I downloaded MWPro 2010. Not sure why, but I installed it in a new folder. I happy I did so that v 6.5.1 was not overwritten, as I was immediately unhappy with 2010.

It is MUCH slower, perhaps because of the glitzy new graphics.

In any event, I'm perfectly happy with v6.5.1. When an upgrade to 2010 is released, I *may* check it out, again doing a separate installation so I still have the older version, just in case. It's not as fancy, but it works and it works FAST and accurately, which is exactly what I want. 2010 is a disappointment; my first with MWPro, which I've used for some 5 years through several earlier versions.

I posted these similar comments on CNET where I downloaded 2010.

Since you mentioned changing the 2010 install directory... It is usually not a great idea to change the default directories of a program unless you have a very good reason to do so. If you have changed any of the default install locations it is your responsibility to insure they do not conflict.

For MW v6 and 2010 the default directories, data and program and the registry information do not conflict so you can have both loaded and even running at the same time without having to change anything.

I'll agree with the speed issues in some areas, display updating, startup and very complex filters run slower as does the delete process. The rest of the program is pretty much as fast as older versions. The display updating speed isn't avoidable, it may be made faster but all of the added functions come at a price and that is speed. Startup speed is mostly .net related, once you get that loaded MW loads in 5-7 seconds even on my old XP box. The filtering system could use some more attention to speed but even with my huge collection going through 1000 messages isn't too awful.

One of the big improvements in 2010 is the spam filtering, the switch to the multiple tools working together mode is proving to be much more accurate than the v6 method of just looking at the first tool to hit on a message. Spammers are getting good at beating that system and will get better as time goes on.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll give them a try. By the way, I had already set the "fallback account." Didn't seem to help with the email that couldn't be restored.
