The new MailWasher Pro : 2010 USELESS???

Sun Aug 15, 2010 1:35 am

I have today tried Mailwasher Pro 2010 again and it installed the latest 'update' and it now takes over the screen and nothing gets rid of it. It starts with the 'How to use it' auto and that will not stop and the tick cannot be taken out of the do not play it again box. I cannot get to the main screen!!!! The only way to stop it is to right click on the icon and exit the lot of it it. It then says MailwasherPro has encountered a problem and needs to close with a stupid useless apology!!!!!!!!!!!

It still sits UNDER the Win XP Pro Toolbar which I run at the top.

ALL UTTERLY B USELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This must be happening to all users why can't you fix it??????????????

YES I AM ANGRY!!!

I'm not sure what's causing this, if however you go into

C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Firetrust\MailWasher\ and look for Startup.xml >> right click this and select 'Open With' and choose Notepad >> then near the the bottom (around 4th line up) look for the line

Code: Select all

  <PlayAnimationOnStartup>True</PlayAnimationOnStartup>
Change the True to False >> save and close.

@ Alvern - sorry to hear that you are having install problems with MWP2010. And yes, I can hear your frustration and anger - it's annoying when things don't go as planned and really fudding annoying when this sort of thing happens. Gamers are really passionate about their specific game of choice and really go feral if a developer releases anything mildly buggy. In fact, some game development companies have gone bust over their inability to release a stable product so what you are talking about really is seriously important and your feelings about it are understandable.

So far as I can tell, you are the first to report this specific issue - thank you for taking the time to do so. We need people to talk about such things (hopefully calmly) so that together we can work the problem and make MWP2010 better.

For all - it really helps to provide as much info as possible when reporting problems like this. PC environments are complex things - no two PC's are precisely the same, for example. And although this might not help you right now, it's not uncommon for something as simple as a video driver to cause lots of things to go wrong yet they aren't (often) looked at when we problem solve.

General point: update your video driver to the latest (stable) version available BEFORE installing any software. This simple step can save a lot of grief.

Also, everyone please be a bit patient with a new release version. Sure we all want things to go perfectly well. But the truth is that every time a single line of code changes (in any program) there is always a potential for unforeseen consequences. I generally wait a while before moving to the newest / latest version before upgrading for this reason.

So far, MWP2010 has worked perfectly well for me but acknowledge that's not been the experience for everyone. The fact that we have had so relatively few reported problems is a credit to the coders - lots of people use this program.

Please keep in touch and let us know how this works out for you - hopefully well, of course.

Yes, sorry to say I have not been able to get past the welcome screen and despite unchecking the box, it always appears. Win 7 64 bit also reports incompatibility.

Fortunately version 6.51 runs with no problems at all. Obviously it installed under x86 etc in Program files. Could be an Advanced Installer issue? I use this for my own software and have to watch things carefully when compiling. I have therefore uninstalled 2010.

Well, I've given up on MW Pro 2010. I excitedly upgraded less than a week ago and within hours I was beset with memory issues, my computer slowed down and MW Pro itself was variously loading and not loading. I thought we'd achieved a level of peaceful co-existence when, earlier today I was unable to use PhotoShop CS3 because MailWasherPro 2010 was hogging memory.

Now, initially, I was considering juggling between the two programs, never opening them both at the same time; but ultimately opted to get rid of 2010. As a long term user of Firetrust products, it was difficult and I was sorry to walk away. If only the program wasn't such a memory hog............

It's not clear what you are seeing relative to memory use but on my system the working set for both executables is a little over 70mb and the peak at a little over 140 mb. MWP2010 dynamically releases memory when it goes idle.
How much ram do you have and what is your page file size?
