Two mailwashers on the same machine?

Fri Aug 20, 2010 12:42 pm

Hi Mailwashers:

Is it recommended to install MWP 10

* over the older version (e.g. 6.5.3) -- for example in the same directory ; or
* concurrently with the older version -- for example in a different directory; or
* after uninstalling the older version completely; or
* does it matter? :roll:

Thanks!
Cheers,

Peter

I would personally
* concurrently with the older version -- for example in a different directory; or

Don't install into the same folder, that will likley cause issue.

Of course you could remove the old one completely anyway, I find it's useful to keep around, but for entirely different reasons.

Concurrent checking or deletion by both can create problems. Otherwise keep them both until you are ready. I have stopped running the old one.

I run both at the same time 2010 on auto and v5 on manual checks, that way I can compare the two and use v5 for spam reporting to spamcop.net.

Only issue aside from both trying to check at the same time is if you delete from one and then try to delete the same message from the other it whines about the mail being gone.

As long as you installed both v5/6 and 2010 into their default directories you'll have no hassle, they were designed not to conflict. If you moved either from the default then it is up to you to make sure each goes into an individual directory.

Hello Mailwashers:

Thanks for the clarifications.

Running the two versions for a while seems like a good idea, especially to be able to keep connections with First Alert and/or Spamcop.

I do specify the directories for most programs that I install, so I will be careful to specify a clearly separate installation folder.

I understand that it would whine about messages already deleted, so I would be careful not to upset it by letting one usurp the privileges of the other. ;)
Cheers,

Peter

The firstalert tool in 2010 is working well as long as you set the download limit to around 100 lines.

I'm rooting for the spamcop tool to be available too! They are looking at a lot of improvements to the way it works in v6 that will be a big help.
