V19 strange interaction with other programs

Sun Aug 29, 2010 10:51 am

Since upgrading to V19 I have been seeing a weird problem with some other programs. I use a desktop manager called Dexpot (pronounced 'depot'). I run my main programs on desktop 1, my mail programs (MWP and Outlook) on desktop 2, and my task manager (I use Swift To-Do List) on desktop 3, with a 'spare' desktop 4.

After I upgraded to V19, whenever I run a game that takes over the full screen (which I do on desktop 1), when I quit the game and return to Windows, the MWP windows is showing on desktop 1, as well as on desktop 2 where it belongs. This only started happening after I installed V19. (Note: I did not install V15, so I don't know if the problem was present there too.)

This is admittedly a minor annoyance. I can close MWP on desktop 1, but then when I switch back to desktop 2 I have to open it again. I would be much happier if MWP went back to staying where I put it.

Okay, it's not quite that simple, and it's more annoying. After running a full-screen program, MWP appears on desktop 1. I close it, go to desktop 2, and re-open it (click on it in the icon tray). This also causes it to display back on desktop 1. The only way I can keep it off desktop 1 is to close it completely (File->Exit) and then re-start it.

Since this is probably a pretty unusual configuration, it may not be worth the developers' time to look into it. I solved the problem by switching to a different virtual desktop program that I like better.

Dexpot is buried somewhere in the system as being something to look at, but it's getting shunted down the list for being fairly uncommon. We will take a look at it when we can though.
