Just did the update to 1.0.19 - big mistake.
When I try to check mail the program now hangs. It says it is "logging into ????.ca" (my first mail service) but nothing ever happens. When I try to check mail in other services it does the same thing.
Is there a way to revert back to the previous version, which more or less worked?
Failing that is there a way to save my data - friends list, filters, etc. and revert back to version 6.54?
Thanks,
Ted

Re: v19 hangs on Check Mail
Restore from your backup.
Check security software is not stopping MWP from accessing the internet.
Look in the log file for the connections: Help >> User files >> Logs >> logs_08-28-2010 >> MWPapp_[account name].log this might give you a clue to what is happening.
You could try reinstalling v1.0.19 (Keeping your data when prompted at the uninstall).
If you auto update then open the: Setting >> General >> Updates >> Go to folder. to find the earlier install .exe files.
Reverting back to earlier versions without also reverting userdata etc... is not supported and is done at your own risk.

I do wish there was a big blinky sign somewhere that said "DO NOT mess with MW v5 or v6 just because you are loading the 2010 version of MW" so folks would know that and not uninstall/delete/remove the v5/6 programs or data.
Re: v19 hangs on Check Mail
That is only applicable to reverting 2010 or v5/6 executable programs, going back to MW v5 or v6 from 2010 is as simple as running them from the start menu or desktop icon if you did not uninstall them as 2010 has no impact on them or their data. If you did uninstall v5 or v6 then a reinstall should have you working again with all of your old data still there unless you removed it.anniebrion wrote:Reverting back to earlier versions without also reverting userdata etc... is not supported and is done at your own risk.

Re: v19 hangs on Check Mail
I have the same problem. The program worked fine before the update, and (I think) once or twice after it -- though I had my mail program open, and was collecting mail through that. This afternoon the program just quit working. It stops at the black screen, and nothing happens. I've given it full access through the firewall (Zone Alarm), so that's not the issue.
Thanks for the news about going back to 6.54. I'll do that, until I hear that the issue is fixed.

Re: v19 hangs on Check Mail
The new version does have promise, the spam-tool weighting is going to become more and more important as spammers continue to work out systems to defeat MW v5/6 spam filtering. Then too 2010 has the potential to add other very good tools that just couldn't be shoved into the v5-6 program structure effectively.
I've been running 2010 since sometime before May 2009 and it keeps improving but with an occasional stumble along the way. Sometimes it is a global glitch that messes up everyone, these are getting rarer as Firetrust is learning to give the Beta crew a hack at the new release for a couple days before turning it loose. Sometimes it only bites a few users and is related to something like their system settings, mail servers or other programs on their system. In either case just fire up the old version and use it once you report your issues here or to support and wait for the next fix.
I don't envy anyone trying to develop a Windows program, there is just so much that can go wrong and there is no possible way to tell ahead of time what it will be, you'd need a million beta testers all with different system setups and using every possible ISP, spam program and driver out there to have a ghost of a chance of getting something right for everyone.

Re: v19 hangs on Check Mail
Well I'm afraid it looks like MWP2010 is just not ready for prime time yet. Too bad. I like the new GUI, and I've given the stunted functionality a 23-day trial now, but this is a real show-stopper.
Back to v6.54.

We'd need to see logs if anything is to be fixed.
If you go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter chris as the Ticket Number >> also enter a link to this forum thread/brief description of the problem >> Send Logs...

Oh yeah, I hear ya talkin'. The thing that really gets stuck in my craw is I actually paid ten bills to upgrade to this cr*p. Unfortunately, I thought if I uninstalled all of my previous Mail Washer programs it would fix the problem. Bad mistake!
