Spam Score in filters

Mon Sep 06, 2010 3:40 am

I am still trying to get my Launguage filter to auto-delete.

Many of these e-mails have a score of close to 100, so MW sees them as "good." In the Settings tab of filters, there is a Spam Score slider. I am not clear what its function is with a filter, and Help doesn't address it.

In order to be auto-deleted, does the spam score also have to be below a certain threshold? If that's the case, it would seem to defeat the purpose of having a filter that can auto-delete spam so I don't have to see it or deal with it.

Can anyone clarify how this slider is used?

Thanks,
Joe Parsons

The slider only has an affect if the override delete is set to "Don't Override delete" otherwise the override delete, overrides and the spam total will not matter.

The Spam score slider works with the Total value assigned to a message and is the mathematical sum of "all" tools e.g. Bayesian, Friends List, Blacklist, Origin of Spam, First Alert and Filters. The slider allows you to choose what Total value of the message you want to reach before automatically deleting the message.

You can also change the values assigned to each of the tools in Settings.

If you use a specific filter to tag specific message content you can set that filter to Automatically delete the message also.

I suggest that you not autodelete until you are confident of the Filter design and or slider settings.

The slider sets the number of points the filter awards the e-mail. You should see this reflected in the total column or if you have it open, in the tool sidebar - you should see it in both the filter and the total icons there. Use is simple, slide it so that the filter is awarding the number of points, good or bad, that you want the filter to add to a message it triggers on.

If you posted on this before it would be a big help to folks trying to assist you if you'd provide a link to the original topic so they could find the background without having to search for it. I'm a bit busy this morning and don't have time for that so I'll pass on the autodelete issue since I don't know what has been suggested or tried so far.
