Although it's not specifically mentioned as a supported Operating System, are there any known issues with running MailWasher Pro 2010 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server SP2?
I've been running MWP6.x on such a server for years but I'm finding that my installation of MWP 2010 suffers from the same performance problems that have been mentioned by others using desktop versions of Windows, such as a lag of many seconds when highlighting a particular email or clicking on the delete icon for example, and a general slowing of performance over several hours requiring the program to be restarted two or three times per day, even when there are very few emails to be processed.
The server is not especially busy, has dual 2.8GHz Xeon processors, 2GB RAM, a lowly ATI Rage XL graphics chipset (might that be a problem?) and a fresh installation of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
I'm running the latest version of MWP 2010 but I didn't notice any improvements in speed from the previous versions even though I've now enabled all the performance options and am running the "flat" theme.
On a positive note, I've not encountered any real bugs, connections to my POP3 accounts are now far more reliable (presumably a result of the pipelining feature) and I find the method of evaluating emails by combining the result of all the spam tools is greatly superior to the previous method.

Re: Windows 2003 Server
None that I'm aware of. We have an ancient laptop I running the same but speed issues noted on that were put down to the CPU and RAM (it's around 10 years old)
If you remove your Preview Pane from the View menu, does the same speed issue show ?
Also under Settings >> Display >> if unread emails are set to be in bold, try disabling this and then clear the grid, recheck the account (C then Y) does the same problem persist ?

is it best to MW at the ISP then POP into exchange, say every 5 minutes ? then each email only gets checked once on the way in
if mail gets pushed by ISP then every Exchange user account MW by IMAP/POP3 it may have to check 100's of emails each account each run
MWP653 was deceptively transparent at this as it hid most of the friends mail
Plus you have to remember to add new each exchange user to MW
plus the ISP's and clients AV add another level of safety
Performance surely Exchange is a hungry enough beast, especially on SBS, without the extra load of MW
MW could be run on a workstation - especially if it's as the ISP - your thoughts richh
Windows 2003 Server - can we start a separate topic
This is where it gets interesting, Set the Spam Filters and Forget situation, or is there something I'm missing ?richh wrote:........are there any known issues with running MailWasher Pro 2010 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server SP2?

Will accept ricch's thoughts on this - can see the advantage but very few complaints about missing emails using MW653 so don't want to tempt faterichh wrote:....... I find the method of evaluating emails by combining the result of all the spam tools is greatly superior to the previous method .

Re: Windows 2003 Server
rusticdog, thanks for the tips. I don't have the unread emails in bold option set but, now you mention it, I do recall you saying elsewhere about disabling the preview pane; thanks for reminding me. I can confirm that disabling the preview pane speeds things up tremendously! The preview pane is quite important for me though so I'll look forward to a speedier version in a forthcoming release
med, although I'm running MWP 2010 on a server, it's not an Exchange Server. It's a Domain Controller, AD/Global Catalog, primary DNS, Trend Micro OfficeScan Server, WSUS, IIS and ad-hoc backup server (when I remember) so it has a fair few chores but it only has three workstations to look after so is not at all overloaded. It's basically just a "home" domain. I like to run MWP 2010 on the server because it's on 24x7 so no matter whether I'm at work or asleep (or both) I can leave MWP ticking away clearing up my POP3 accounts. If I was running Exchange I'd go for MWES
Cheers,
Rich H

Double click on a highlighted message and try the Pop Out preview window. It has nav hot spot to walk through the Inbox.richh wrote: The preview pane is quite important for me though so I'll look forward to a speedier version in a forthcoming release

Yeap great. By all accounts the most serious speed issues we're encountering is loading this Preview Pane, so that's one of our top jobs to figure out.

Re: Windows 2003 Server
If you're able richh there's a new version here http://mailwasherbeta.s3.amazonaws.com/ ... 092010.exe which has some extra logging. What I'd like is if you can enable the Preview Pane, use MW as normal until the slowness between clicking emails shows then go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter chris as the Ticket Number >> enter a description like 'slow clicking between emails' >> Send Logs.
Thanks
Chris

Re: Windows 2003 Server
Thanks Chris. I'm happy to report that the preview pane in this version is much faster so I guess it also includes some tweaks to the code as well as some extra logging. Selecting delete is still slow but that's not a big issue for me so I'm now less of a "rattled rabbit" and more a "happy bunny".
If I run into any problems I'll send the logs over later but, having watched the news this morning, I realise you guys have more important things to worry about right now. Hope you weren't too badly affected!

Nah, not badly effected at all compared to others.
How's it been going since ? Reason I ask is this new version had no changes to make it faster, it only had extra logging to tell us exactly where the slow downs were occurring as Previewing a message actually has a significant number of processes to go through.

Re: Windows 2003 Server
Glad to hear you're OK.
But how very strange; this version has been running fine without any significant performance issues with the preview pane. Occasionally there might be a very brief moment of hesitation (a fraction of a second) before the preview appears but it's very much faster than before and more than acceptable. And all I did was install this version straight over the top of the old one.
It's a mystery; but maybe if you add more logging it'll get even faster
