Failure to open e mail site
RunningWIN 7 X64 , MailWasher PRO v 2010 1.0.9 and Thunderbird. After Mail washing Thunderbird does not open saying there is an error in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe Going direct to Thunderbird it opens OK. The problem is that thunderbird.exe is located in C:\Progam Files (X86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\ Is there any way to get Mailwasher to go to folder Program Files(X86) and not folder Program Files.

Re: Failure to open e mail site
Hi:
I have no problem with a similar setup.
I assume you mean MWP 2010.1.0.19?
What version TB?
When you go into the MWP settings, and select Tbird, do click the "save" button?
Is TB your default email client?
Might be worth checking these things until one of the experts arrives...
Hope this helps,

Re: Failure to open e mail site
Instead of picking it off the list try selecting "other application" browsing directly to the thunderbird file you want. The button select method depends on Windows knowing what it is doing, not always a safe assumption.

If you want to poke around in your Registry here is a place to start:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook\Shell\Open\Command
This comes from an entry for Outlook if the system is X64
Here is the same thing from a 32 bit implementation
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook\Shell\Open\Command
If you are comfortable poking around in the registry you can probably find the erroneous reference. If you can fix it then restart your system and just go the Setting in MWP select something else Save and then go back and Select TB again.
If your not comfortable then you can use the approach recommended by Stan to get operational.
Re: Failure to open e mail site
The link in use by MWP comes from your registry. Did you upgrade your system to W7 64 from a 32 Bit OS? If so that might explain the problem.FrankS42 wrote:RunningWIN 7 X64 , MailWasher PRO v 2010 1.0.9 and Thunderbird. Re: Failure to open e mail site
Thank you for suggestions. To answer queries.
Daledoc1, Sorry MWP2010 is 1.0.19, TB is v3.1.2, in MWP settings it states check default accounts, I only have one, Home Account in Thunderbird
stan-qaz, currently go direct into Thunderbird after Washing mail.
Sidewinder, MWP was transfered from XP 32 bit OS to W7 X64. Have found the entry for Outlook with system X64, but can't find the erroneous reference.
Currently will stick with going direct to Thunderbird after Washing mail.
Had thougfht of going to C:\Program Files, adding a folder Mozilla Thunderbird and putting in it a copy of thunderbird.exe but wary of side issues if thunderbird is updated.

Re: Failure to open e mail site
Hi, Frank:
Sounds like sidewinder is correct about the 32-bit -> 64-bit upgrade thing (my MWP installs have always been "clean" on an OEM OS).
If you're not comfortable editing the registry (I know I'm not!), then stan's suggestion should work.
If you do try to edit the registry, be sure to make a backup of it first, perhaps with a utility such as ERUNT.
I probably wouldn't install TB to anything other than the default location for the reason you already mentioned.
The other thing you might try is to: 1) backup your TB profile (very important, since this is where your emails, address book, etc are) and , 2) uninstall TB, then 3) download and reinstall a fresh copy of TB (let it install to the default location).
Then you can see if that fixes the problem when you go back into the MWP settings?
FWIW, there are excellent KB articles and really excellent help working with TB (including how to backup/move your profile, etc) at http://forums.mozillazine.org.
One last thing comes to mind: when I recently had to restore the Win7/64 DT to the factory image and reinstall all my programs, I installed TB and restored my profile BEFORE installing MWP2010.
I assume TB needs to be installed first in order for MWP to find the correct directory for it to import the accounts, etc??
Sorry if all this is too stupid -- As you likely guessed, I'm just a home user, not a computer expert, by any stretch of the imagination!
Hope you get it fixed,

Re: Failure to open e mail site
MailWasher simply interrogates the Registry for the location of the file, if something recently has altered on your system though you may need to give MailWasher a kick. Just select it to use another program instead of ThunderBird >> Save >> set back to ThunderBird >> Save...
However if that Registry setting is actually the fault, then the simplest thing to do would be Stans option to 'Use Another Application' and using the Browse button, manually navigate to the location of the ThunderBird executable.

Re: Failure to open e mail site
Thanks for further comments, had a fair problem during the initial run with Win 7 to get Thunderbolt account details correct, so don't want to alter anything unless TB goes out of kilter. It appears that folder Program is for 32 bit items and folder Program 64 is for 64 bit items . Thunderbolt info states it is a 32 bit program which puzzles me as to why it is in the Program 64 folder and is presumably the reason why MWP fails to open TB after washing stating it is unable to find TB in the Program (32bit) folder.
Will stick with opening TB using the Desktop shortcut after washing.

No need to do that, just use the other application method I posted above and it will work for you. No need to tweak any Windows settings.
