Ultramon Compatibility??

Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:47 am

For years I've run MailWasher successfully on my dual monitor system (which uses Ultramon for multi-monitor control - http://www.realtimesoft.com/). (Win XP SP3)

Today I upgraded from MailWasher 6 to the new 2010 version.

The new version doesn't appear to be compatible with Ultramon. Specifically - The problem that I've encountered is that neither Ultramon's custom window buttons nor the custom window menu are present in the MailWasher Pro 2010 window.

I'm not sure where the problem lies or whom I should expect to fix it, so I've sent basically this same email to the UM folks as well.

Interestingly, as I searched the UM forum I discovered that MW (previous incarnations) is one of the few programs cited on the forums as causing problems so this shouldn't be a surprise to either party - I hope.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

I expect this is because we don't use standard Windows borders or controls and instead draw our own custom one over the top. I'll have to check in the office which won't be a for a while, been up all night answering emails, so I'll likley be napping soon

Yeah installed this at work and there doesn't look to be any way to make this work. As we draw our custom borders and controls over top of the existing UltraMon isn't (able I assume) to tie in to this.

Thanks

Thanks for investigating this, Chris.

Since the two worked together in the MW 6.3 incarnation, this problem apparently is related to "improving" MW 2010 over the earlier product. Personally, I don't believe such improvements are worthwhile if it means writing ones own version of Window's standards. Isn't there a way to get back to the 6.3 version in terms of allowing other programs to access what they should be able to get to if standards are followed???
If every program did what they felt best - what a mess we'd have

On a dual monitor system, given a choice between MW working with Ultramon and using the "improved" MW 2010, I'm probably uninstalling 2010 but I'll live with it for a few more days and maybe adapt. I use MW on my secondary monitor and moving it there manually and getting it to stay put the way I want it is an unnecessary hassle.

Glad it was only $10 for the upgrade.

Just sayin'..................

Sure thing. Innovations in Windows7 which really is what the new MailWasher is being built for means that particular feature of UltraMon is obsolete, it's a quick drag of the window to move across to another monitor.

Isn't the real issue that MailWasher is opening on the wrong monitor ? It it opened on the other monitor you wouldn't need to bother moving it across.....

Whatever............

Your response is basically - deal with it; we're not changing - and so I will.

THought I share...I too use MW10 with Ultramon and have no problems, I never used the custom icons in ultramon as more often than not the overlay never worked right either, instead I set up a hot key ctrl+\ to move windows via ultramon to the other screen ...far far better and quicker.

I wanted to offer my thoughts on ...."I use MW on my secondary monitor and moving it there manually and getting it to stay put the way I want it is an unnecessary hassle" but did not understand what you were trying to say here - unless you're using an initial release of MW10 which had that problem with dual monitors. The current release of MW10 now remember the position it was closed on (with dual monitors) the 1st and 2nd iterations had problems but the current works great with ultramon (3.0.10) from my point of view but I do not use the extra custom buttons overlayed.

Hope this unwanted comment was useful.

Thanks, Gary. The hot key solution is what Ultramon suggested as well. I appreciate your attempt to help.

You could try this version now (still in beta, due to be released some time next week), due to an unrelated issue we've had to add back the standard borders on Win7/Vista. XP still uses the custom controls so won't work
