@PresterJohn:
Couple last thoughts --
1) One shouldn't need to disable an entire feature of KIS2011 to run MWP2010 - every computer is different, but KIS proactive defense is fully enabled on my system and MWP2010 runs fine;
2) Please see the link in my last post for setting program permissions in KIS2011 -- aside from adding the two MWP exe files to the trusted list in application controls, there are some additional steps to give the MWP program files the permissions they seem to need on your system (I have not found it necessary to change anything from the default settings on my installation); here is the link again:
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208282089
3) KIS2009 was 2 (long) versions ago and the early builds of KIS 2009 were not even Win7-compatible, & MWP2010 is a completely new build, as well, so it's probably a relatively moot point to compare something that old to what's happening with current versions of both programs (nor do I find anything recent in the KL forums about MWP and KIS);
4) I don't know if you will receive notice of the new build via email or not, but the place to watch for it is here: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=188891, or, more specifically, here: http://www.kaspersky.com/kis_latest_versions. To reiterate, my point about the new version was not that there is any specific "fix" for your issue with MWP, but rather that upgrading will entail a clean install of KIS. The reason this is relevant is that many 3rd-party program "compatibility" issues seem to resolve when the program in question (in this case, MWP) is installed prior to KIS installation. There are many threads and posts at the KL forums about this. So, installing the new KIS build may solve the issue indirectly, if not directly.
5) I'm not sure where you may have posted at KL, but the help forum for KIS is here: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showforum=4 . This is a better bet than trying a formal ticket at KL tech support, at least for starters.
6) You aren't running MWP2010 and an older version of MWP simultaneously (both versions open) at the same time are you, by any chance, since I think that will cause problems?
7) One FINAL thought -- you don't have Windows Firewall or Windows Defender enabled, by any chance, do you? (With KIS, they both need to be disabled both in the control panel settings, and ideally in services.msc)
Well, I'm out of ideas!

Re: MAILWASHER WON'T WASH MAIL
Daledoc: In response to some of your points:
1) Since the "PROACTIVE DEFENSE" is enabled in KIS and fully compatible with MW Pro 2010 on your computer, I agree that there may be certain settings in my system that are conflicting with the operation of KIS, thereby affecting MW Pro as well.
2) I will take a look at the links that you kindly provided.
3) No, I am not running an earlier version of MW simultaneously with MW Pro 2010. I had run into another problem and posted on that issue which issue was resolved once I uninstalled the earlier version of MW Pro.
4) Windows Firewall is disabled and I am using the KIS firewall alone as my one software firewall. Note: I also use a hardware firewall -- a Netgear Router with default settings. Could that be one cause of the problem?
5) And, I see that WINDOWS DEFENDER is operational on my system -- aparently by default on WINDOWS 7. I did not know that. But from experience, having manually installed WINDOWS DEFENDER when I was using WINDOWS XP as my OS, I did run into problems with other security software and thereupon uninstalled WINDOWS DEFENDER. It apparently runs in the background on WINDOWS 7, as there is no icon in the taskbar to point to the fact of its execution. I will disable it forthwith.
Thanks again for your kind assistance. I'll report back once I carry out your suggestions.
Sincerely,
PRESTER JOHN

Re: MAILWASHER WON'T WASH MAIL
Hi, again:
-- It's OK to have both versions of MWP installed, as long as they are in different directories (I still have both on my LT) -- one just doesn't want to have both versions open/running and trying to "wash" simultaneously. In fact, if MWP2010 is having issues, you could consider reinstalling 6.5.4 and running that temporarily, until you resolve the 2010 issues.
-- For Windows Defender and Windows Firewall, in addition to turning them off individually from the control panel (classic view), it is generally recommended at the KL forums to also disable them from services.msc b/c they can still be "enabled" in the background, if one does not do this. From the start orb, type "services.msc" in the search box (without quotes). When that comes up, click on it. Give it a moment to fully populate the list, then scroll down to each one (Windows Defender and Windows Firewall), highlight each one, right-click on them and select "disable" (you will probably notice that -- before you do this last step and even though you have them turned off from the CP -- they are still enabled). They can cause subtle conflicts and installation issues with KIS2011, esp in Win7. I'm no computer expert -- just a home user -- and this additional step may not be 100% entirely "mandatory", but I found the advice to fully disable both of these as described allowed me to install and run KIS2011 without any issues.
-- I'm REALLY no expert at all when it comes to networking & firewalls, but I don't expect your hardware firewall on your router is causing the problem. Honestly, I don't know enough to say, one way or the other. I suppose anything is possible. Hence.....
-- I'd still respectfully suggest posting at the KL forum (link in my last post), since your MWP problems seem to suggest something funky about your KIS installation. They may be able to help with your KIS settings to allow you to re-enable proactive defense and still set program exclusions for MWP to allow it to work properly. (Be sure to include "MailWasherPro 2010" somewhere in your subject line, so that your post may catch the eye of the expert there who is a longtime MWP user...
).
-- Hopefully, starting from "scratch" with a clean install of the new KIS build when it becomes available soon may -- directly or indirectly -- resolve your MWP issue, if it is not fixed before then.
Regards,
daledoc1

Re: MAILWASHER WON'T WASH MAIL
Daledoc1:
I followed your suggestions and they seem to do the trick. I disabled the "WINDOWS DEFENDER" application and also disabled the "WINDOWS DEFENDER" service. I then checked to see if I have the latest build of KIS 2011 which I do. Third, I went into the KIS 2011 settings under "DETECTED THREATS AND EXCLUSIONS" (which I didn't even know about since I simply used the trusted setting under "APPLICATION CONTROL") and set MW Pro 2010 for trusted status and checked all boxes to prevent KIS 2011 from scanning MW Pro. There are apparently many layers to KIS and it does indeed appear to be an all encompassing security tool. Finally, I re-enabled "PROACTIVE DEFENSE" and closed and reopened my MW Pro 2010 and tried washing my email. It worked!
I am going to monitor MW Pro 2010 for the next few days with the present settings. If I have no further problem, then I will deem the mailwashing problem solved. You have been a lifesaver Daledoc1! Sincere thanks for your prompt and tireless and complete assistance to what has been an exasperating problem for me.
Sincerest regards,

Re: MAILWASHER WON'T WASH MAIL
As an entirely self-taught (read: OLD) geezer who knows nothing about computers, except what I've picked up over the years at the end user side through trial and error (mostly error), I'm glad I could help.
I am a relative newbie to KIS (having just installed it for the first time ~3 months ago), so I find that hanging out at their forum (mostly just reading, occasionally posting about my own issues) and reading their EXTENSIVE, detailed KB articles (http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2011) have been most helpful, even when it is all sometimes a bit over my head.
Yes, there are MANY layers to the protection, many settings to be tweaked, many features to explore. It's definitely NOT for those who want to "set it and forget it" when it comes to security.
That said, I appreciate the superior protection, & the configurability (in an era when most consumer security products have been stripped of features and dumbed-down beyond usefulness).
But "most of all", I love MWP.
(It always amuses me to read at the mozillazine & other forums about folks and their SPAM problems....
)
Thanks to the other posters (Stan_gaz and sidewinder, et al) for helping out!
