My reason for supporting the $10 annual fee is that it's worth it to me.
I've not found another software vendor which provides the same high level of responsiveness and communication with users.
I also have no problem with the change to a "by machine" from a "by user" model. I'll be registering both my desk top machine and, later, my laptop. Even though I only use the laptop for brief periods during travel each year. the fee is still worth it to me as insurance for the continuing level of support Firetrust has provided.

You now get a laptop license thrown in free with every desktop license so no need to register both separatelycfheinz wrote:I also have no problem with the change to a "by machine" from a "by user" model. I'll be registering both my desk top machine and, later, my laptop.

Re: $10 licence - excellent idea to support product development
I don't so much object to the $30 fee as I do object to way it was introduced. SWRE writers have to see some compensation for their efforts.
I first heard of MWP via a routine swre update check for v.6 - liked what I saw - looked high and low for special pricing for long time users - found nothing.
So I decided to foot the $30 and a week or so later you sent out an update and mentioned that former users could upgrade for $10, but never really offered anyway to invoke this without paying another $10. So for the time being I gulped this and went on.
Then I hear that former users could get a subscription + one extra year for $10 - that's too much!!
Now I'm stuck with a $30 fee for one year and nowhere to see how to get this injustice corrected.
Then I read on the forum that at the end of one year MWP disappears - that's too much also!!
If I don't see some adjustment or change in your policy, I may follow what a few others have decided - go back to version 6.

You can always e-mail the firetrust folks with your old and new subscription info and request they sort it out. They have done that for quite a few folks that missed out on the deal. look for posts by rusticdog for the refund address or just send it to support and let them re-rout it as needed.
They are making an announcement of the new version with the special prices but the e-mails are going out fairly slowly to avoid both getting blocked and flooding the support folks with new user questions.

Annie-I'm not updating the laptop for about three months when that's the next time I haul if out of mothballs.
I've been told to let them know when I do this so they can send me a key for that unit with a subscription start date that coincides with the laptop update.
I think the offer was for two licenses for those of us who upgrade to MWP2010 and not a single license for two computers.
Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect.

Edit, see this post for the latest details...

Outdated answer:
Confusing communications from Firetrust on this... I believe the case is like this for registered v6 users:
If you take the early-adopter offer you get two copies of MW with two different activation keys that can be used by two different people.
You get a license to use each copy of MW on two of your own computers with the same activation key on each one.
This is along with the $10 upgrade offer.

Re: $10 licence - excellent idea to support product development
I updated the main FAQ thread. We're trying to get the newsletters out as fast as we can, I think we're up to E.
cfheinz has a super secret special deal going on with me, where he bought the one licence despite being entitled for the extra one free. I said I'd create him a new one when he dug his laptop out. That said cfheinz, this was also when The Big Cheese had the policy set of one license per machine, which he has now reconsidered and adjusted. So you can use the same licence you use on your desktop for that. You can of course let me know as that free licence offer still stands.
Dcn.Dad, flick me an email to [email protected] or email Support. Support will be slower, there is a slight backlog brewing

Nothing out of the ordinary at all, so no reason to apologise. Too often people just assume we aren't flexible, but we always are.cfheinz wrote:Thanks, but I'll play by the same rules for everyone else. I hadn't been aware that it was out of the ordinary and apoligize if I caused any problems.

Wish all software vendors were as quick to respond. The new setting for the the error sound is, for me, a real case in point.

@mcullet
Respectfully: saying somone is 'whining' is not 'dry humor'.
As you've written some chapters of justification, I too have a long post of thoughts... which I 'll just link rather than double-post: http://forum.firetrust.com/viewtopic.ph ... fee#p34553
...(updated) just for counterpoint.
I hope the developer reconsiders the 'stops working if not updated' 'feature'. It's a bad, parasitic approach, leaving loyal non-subscription users with a 'sunset' product, 6.x.
I might like to try 2010... but contrary to my linked post, I'll probably just continue with 6.x until 2010 subscription is not forced, 6.x is terminated, or I just drop the whole MWP because it becomes unnecessary/redundant. It has been a nice filter/pre-viewing tool... (that is something that should continue) ...but now with 2010 it becomes forced redundant 'security' with the added/forced First Alert apparently, being included in the subscription. (The redundancy is because most of us have an antimalware product that monitors email.) A better alternative would be to continue a Mailwasher 2010 (or 'Lite') filter/rules/previewer... with a second 'all new'/additional Mailwasher Pro (added security) subscription version.
