I'll agree that the notice about the subscription was poorly done, I sent in an e-mail complaint over that very issue.

As to the subscription to keep MW working - as a personal opinion only - I'm not fond of it.

I would have much preferred that MW drop back to a basic level of functioning after the year and not allow any more upgrades. The problem with that is that right now a lot of folks don't think that the FA system is worth $10 per year and it is the only MW service that uses an external server. I have been trying to convince Firetrust to add more spam tools that can perform much better on a remote server than on a local user's machine but so far haven't managed to do that. If they could get a few of them up and running I'd think most folks would see the advantage in having the external tools in exchange for their $10 per year.

so why not separate FirstAlert and MWP into separate packages and only charge a $10 annual fee to those that want FirstAlert? Leave MWP the way it has been since the beginning...pay $10 to upgrade to the new 2010 version and go back to the free minor upgrades/bug fixes like promised all those years ago? Why bundle the two if someone doesn't want the bundle?

Because the renewal fee is not just for FirstAlert. Support, maintenance, development etc...all costs a considerable amount of money.

I too have been a user of MW for at least 7 years and have recommended the software to dozens of friends and colleagues. I clicked through from the newsletter today to upgrade/purchase the 2010 version and then noticed the annual subscription fee.

Although I was more than willing to pay the US$10 for a major rewrite of the software, I am not fond of this new annual subscription fee.

Maybe for existing users, instead of offering a second copy for free, it may have been better to offer the first annual renewal for free, giving them the opportunity to use the new version for 2 years.

Looks like I will be staying with MW6.3 and will probably not be recommending the product so freely to people.

I hate to interrupt a major theme in this thread, but is there a reason there is no print button in MWP'10 (and hasn't been previously)?

Not that I can think of, put in a suggestion: http://suggest.firetrust.com/

Create a login that matches the forum for less hassle and look over the rest of the suggestions and vote for your top choices.

Interrupt away, it's just going in circles anyway.

A print button is something we do get requested a fair amount, I'd like to see it done, just not sure exactly how we format the email as we'd have to rebuild the email from the information we have to print it, so not quite as trivial as one might expect.

I was thinking it would be formatted in the same way it's seen in the preview...unformatted (atleast that's the behaviour I was expecting to see when I looked for a print option). Just as if someone did a "select all" and pasted it into notepad, but with the respective display font. I think that's what people would assume a print button would deliver. Some email displays are naturally cleaner than others so some would look nicer printed out than others...that would be natural. Any fancier than that would probably be spending unnecessary resources, since there are other tools that do it easily, such as downloading the email into one's mail client or printing from the web browser.

Yeah, though the Preview Pane does have some formatting underneath. It still needs improvement as well, but yes, you would load the main body of the email to print from that screen.

But for Print be relevant and useful I would imagine too we'd construct date, from, to, cc, bcc, etc....all that needs to be considered, layouts, fonts.

I'll play around with ThunderBird3 and see what that does for emails that are formatting in various ways.

If we get a print option it would be great to offer it for both Plain Text and Source tabs and in the recycle bin.

I wouldn't use it a lot as I try to copy/paste to temporary documents and delete them when done to keep my printing costs under control.

I guess then best to build the printable area depending what Tab you are currently viewing. So Plain Text by default, but if you are viewing the Source tab then it does that instead.

Good point, lol...it would indeed be nice to see date and to/from etc., and I overlooked that that's not in the preview pane.

I agree with stan_qaz that printing ability from the recycle bin and the source would be useful. I probably wouldn't use print source much, but anything that's in the preview pane, it would be nice to right-click and see a context menu print option. Recycle bin would be certainly handy...print something out from there instead of restoring it so that it can be printed out.

Thanks for considerations towards this.

There are. I am one who doesn't like HAVING to pay "even though we were promised years ago a lifetime of free upgrades" we shouldn't HAVE to do it. I they had asked for "contributions" I would have. It's the principle of this forced payment that is wrong. And yes .. the extra yearly payment just rubs salt into the wound.

That is also a matter of opinion. One I do not agree with, but ONLY because firetrust had previously stated no more charges were to be applied. If they hadn't said that .. I would have decided on making a purchase based on other information.

v6 is still available and still works for anyone who is unhappy enough with the new fee structure to not want to upgrade to 2010.

As has been said over and over 2010 is a completely new program, not a modification of v6 so the old offers made with v6 do not apply.
