Re: deleted...not
My heavens it is going from bad to worse, TB picked up spam that did not go through MW . Do you think I have a bug that is directing my mail?

No, the spam email was probably in the spam folder.

I feel quite heartened at this one because at least it was something I could do. But the spam did not appear to go through MW yet it appeared in the spam folder in TB.

OK, lets fire up remote session. I prefer to use AnyDesk https://anydesk.com/en/downloads
When you run the program it has a "This Desk" section with an identifier, just below that is a link "Invitation Email" click that and send the email to me at [email protected] >> I'll try and connect when it comes through.
When I connect I'll start up a chat session.

Me again rustic dog, bet you thought you had seen the last of me after our remote session. I am using Thunderbird but it is not behaving as it should in my opinion, MW goes for the mail but then so does TB and mostly beats MW to it. You advised me to not use all mail but to use inbox in TB but if the mail goes into inbox TB deletes it and puts it in all mail. I might add I do not ask TB to get mail it just does it. I am so sorry to bother you with this again but it appears that MW is being shunted out again.

For example, my ALL MAIL folder has 15,000 messages going back 10 years. I don't know why exactly GMail do this, they just do.
I think I've found why ThunderBird is retrieving the emails automatically, what's happening is every time you click in the Inbox folder that triggers ThunderBird to synchronise. I thought disabling the options mentioned earlier stopped this entirely (requiring your to click Get Messages) but it does not, it only stops activity when ThunderBird is idle.
So if I have this right you need to Unsubscribe the Inbox folder. I've made a short video how to do this, if that doesn't work, let me know and I can do another remote session.
In the video I first set ThunderBird to display the Menu bar, as if I recall correctly yours is not displaying. Then I click on the Inbox folder >> click File >> Subscribe >> uncheck the Inbox from subscription >> click OK >> then you should restart ThunderBird.

Re: deleted...not
Just to clarify, you can ignore the ALL MAIL folder. GMail forces all messages you receive, send, delete etc into this folder as an archive. GMail does this, not ThunderBird.sloppy33 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 11:38 pmMe again rustic dog, bet you thought you had seen the last of me after our remote session. And now I just realise the video is set at a massive resolution. On the link above there is a download option, you might want to download the video and play it through your regular media player if it cannot fit on your screen nicely.

Re: deleted...not
That made not the slightest bit of difference, MW checking ok, opening TB from "email program" and before I have time to look at it let alone click it the mail is in TB and just as quickly shunts it out to "all mail" I even tried to forward an email from all mail to inbox but it wasnt having any of it and back it went to all mail.

So messages are still coming into the INBOX in ThunderBird when you don't want them to ?sloppy33 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 3:25 amThat made not the slightest bit of difference, MW checking ok, opening TB from "email program" and before I have time to look at it let alone click it the mail is in TB and just as quickly shunts it out to "all mail" I even tried to forward an email from all mail to inbox but it wasnt having any of it and back it went to all mail.

Re: deleted...not
Correct Rustic Dog, I did have a small lightbulb moment this morning, I had 5 messages come into MW I washed 2 and then fired up TB, 3 messages appeared in TB without me asking for them I might add. Read said mail closed TB and returned to MW. I washed the 3 mails in MW and then fired up TB in time to see the 3 messages disappearing into all mail. Could it be that gmail is set up to delete mail when I wash mail. Dont really know what I am saying, its a bit early for me and I havnt had my first coffee yet. It doesnt explain why TB is doing its own thing.

Re: deleted...not
Yeah, so because you are using IMAP, MailWasher and ThunderBird are sharing the Inbox, that means when you deleted those 3 messages mentioned above, they deleted from the same Inbox that ThunderBird shows.
That's why they removed themselves from ThunderBird, they no longer exist in the Inbox folder.

Re: deleted...not
Yup sure.
In MailWasher click on Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> change the top from IMAP to POP >> Save. I would also click the eye icon and make a note of the password.
Then remove the IMAP account in ThunderBird, don't worry you won't lose any email.
In ThunderBird under Tools >> Account Settings >> click on your GMail account on the left then click Account Actions bottom left >> select Remove Account >> confirm the removal.
Now we add the POP account into ThunderBird, back in the Account Settings screen click the Account Actions and choose Add Mail Account >> enter name, email address and password >> then click Configure Manually at the bottom left >> under the Incoming section change it from IMAP to POP >> the pop server address is pop.gmail.com >> also on the right the SMTP server address is smtp.gmail.com >> under SSL for both the Incoming and Outgoing change this from AutoDetect to SSL/TLS >> the rest can be left, then press the Re-Test button and it should check the settings >> click Done it will check the password.
Now you should have working POP accounts in both. So we want to tweak ThunderBird slightly.
In ThunderBird back in Tools >> Account Settings >> select Server Settings on the left on the newly added GMail POP account >> uncheck these four options if checked.
Check for new messages at startup
Check for new messages every xx minutes
Automatically download new messages
Leave messages on server
Then close ThunderBird using the X and start it back up again to force those changes to take effect.
Assuming everything goes well this means ThunderBird will only download messages when asked, and it will also delete the copy off the server when it downloads. When it does this, MailWasher will no longer see the email.
Also, as you have not been using POP lately, you can expect ThunderBird to bring in a lot of old emails, again don't worry about those, they are safe to delete as you wish.

Re: deleted...not
That didnt go well Rustic, got down as far as "click done and it will check password" up comes a yellow banner that says unable to log in to server. Probably wrong configuration, user name or password. Before that when I changed to POP in MW it said failed to connect to server.

If you logon to your GMail account here https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop
There is a section : POP download: does this say "1. Status: POP is enabled" ?
