How can MailWasher be password protected?

Thu Mar 15, 2012 6:59 am

The existing, albeit dormant, thread touching on this subject does not address how to password protect the MailWasher utility itself. That's what I want to know: "How do I password protect MailWasher itself?" not "How do I password protect account information contained within MailWasher?" As is presently the case with my browser and electronic-mail client, I want to be sure a dialog box requesting entry of a password appears each time MailWasher is called upon to start.

I'm using MailWasherPRO Version 2012 1.8.0; and my local machine's operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 5.10.2600 Service Pack 3. My local machine is an IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R52 1847-W76. Thank you very much for any assistance you can render in regard to this matter!

:cheers

As of now, it's not possible to password protect the program. :no

You may suggest this feature, though. :thumbsup

If you have multiple users on your system then create an individual sign on for each and then change your own sign on password. That will permit only you to access MWP.

You can also set your screen saver to require your sign on password when you come out of screen saver mode.

Thank you, TrustFire, for your suggestion. I've now made just such a suggestion as you've, erm, suggested! Thank you too, Sidewinder, for your suggestions. I already have password protection enabled for coming out of my local machine's screen-saver mode; and in regard to overall password protection, what I'm seeking is separate password protection for the MailWasher program itself (which apparently is not possible at this point).

Here is a universal solution that should work for MWP as well as any Windows application:

Thank you very much, Sidewinder, for those links! I tried both Empathy and Protect Exe, but neither of them want to work on my local machine. In both cases, when attempting to start MailWasher PRO 2012, a dialog box popped up and announced an error: Something or other "threw an application" - whatever that means. MailWasher's splash screen went away immediately and nothing else happened.

Since both Empathy and Protect Exe change MailWasher's executable file, I ended up having to uninstall then reinstall MailWasher - twice. I'm back to the infamous Square One, but at least everything's working as before. I'll probably just have to wait until Firetrust gets the message that password protection is important nowadays. Thanks all the same, though!

:)

Thank you for your suggestions, TrustFire, but both those programs cost money. Free trials are notorious for their limitations and theirs are no different.

Sidewinder, I thank you too for your suggestions. However, one of those programs only protects running applications; hence, MailWasherPRO could still be started without a password being required. The other one is limited to a few Windows programs; so if you want it to password-protect MailWasherPRO you have to buy the darned thing.

Wouldn't it be nice if MailWasherPRO had a password-protection option? I think so.

You're right, they're shareware and cost money - but, I've mentioned the '
promo
' for you (so they're free.) Grab it.

Well, TrustFire, I tried the relevant link for that promotion. The ensuing pages are written in German; and neither the U.S. nor U.K. drop-down menu options work (they won't connect). But I dutifully entered my electronic-mail address nonetheless, yet no message was forthcoming. Maybe it'll show up overnight.

Just tried it and received the license within 2 minutes flat. There's no drop-down menu, there (javascript needs to be enabled) - you only have to enter an email ID and uncheck the check-box (unless you wish to receive their newsletters.) Next click the 'Abschicken' radio button and check the email account (including Spam & Bulk folders) for the license. :thumbsup
