I'm running MW Pro 5.3 I'm sure it's a "paid for" copy. I recently upgraded to 7 from within 5.3 and it's telling me I only have xx days left in which to use the "trial" version. Do I need to buy a new licence.
Thanks.

Yes, you do as Release 7 is complete rewrite. You also have to pay for a yearly update.

There is a 'lifetime' license. That would seem to mean you -don't- have to pay a yearly update. Or am I wrong?

There are separate lifetime licenses for the V6 and the V7 - separate as in independent (the V6 lifetime license won't work on the V7 and vice versa.)RpD wrote:There is a 'lifetime' license.

Duh! Please.... let's not go there... again.
For the v7 upgrade, there is a lifetime license option... which would seem to indicate freedom from yearly update (subscription) fees. Yes?
Which Pierre failed to mention. That's all I'm saying... not opening up the old argument.
The v7 upgrade has the handsome price of $99.99 unless you buy within 24 hours of installing the trial... where you can get 20% off.
I just got email from Firetrust... with the (new to me) designation of v7 rather than the year (MWP 2012) label.
Unfortunately that lifetime price precludes my adoption, for now.

Not sure about the lifetime offer - the newsletter that I received bears no mention of the term lifetime, anywhere.RpD wrote:The v7 upgrade has the handsome price of $99.99 unless you buy within 24 hours of installing the trial... where you can get 20% off.

If you only have one email account you can use the free version. Also there is a discount available for the annual fee.bigyin wrote:I'm running MW Pro 5.3 I'm sure it's a "paid for" copy. The "Lifetime" license claim is a fraud - they change a few things and call it a new product and require a new license . Firetrust should take the "trust" out the name. They really should face a class action law suit for misleading customers. You need to pay them to keep your software current.Pierre wrote:Yes, you do as Release 7 is complete rewrite. Not a few things but a complete rewrite. The program is new. Your lifetime license for the prior version is still good.dougm1 wrote:The "Lifetime" license claim is a fraud - they change a few things and call it a new product and require a new license

You're confusing your own lifetime (from birth to death) with a (software-)products lifetime: normally the period of time during the product lifecycle when said products are generally available for sale. More than often plus some years after the “End of Sales” date has been declared by the developing company. If you have a lifteime license for MailWasher Pro 5, you can still use that product, even thyough that product is well beyond its lifetime by now.
In 2011 FireTrust lanced a new product in the MailWasher line: MailWasherPro. Although IMHO the similarity in name is quite confusing (no space between MailWasher and Pro), anyone in his/her right mind can see that these two are completely different products. MailWasherPro is completely rewritten and brings a lot of cool new features. You cannot expect your license for the earlier product to be valid for the new one, just because the latter carries a similar name, however confusing.
In my opinion, FT would have done better to have named the new product something like MailWasherXPress or MAilWasherPlus (you name it) to avoid this confusion. Still: this does not alter the fact that we're talking about two different products here. Both products are capable of "washing" your mail. Both in their own way. Where the "old" product still does what you paid for when you bought the license, the newest product does it better (and a lot more sophisticated).

It's tough (nay impossible) to keep everybody satisfied.
When there's no lifetime offer being published - someone or the other will grumble.
When there is a lifetime offer published - someone or the other will still grumble.
FWIW, it's quite predictable where this thread is headed . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
