Update server error

Sun Sep 28, 2014 5:02 pm

Hi,

When I check for updates, I have a long wait then get a server error message. Is there a problem with the server?

Cheers & Beers

It is a good idea to subscribe to the following thread for notification on updates and also for the direct link to the latest release:--
MailWasher Pro (βeta) | Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC (22H2) | The Bat! Professional (βeta) | Windows 10 Firewall Control (βeta) | ESET Endpoint Antivirus (βeta) | nVIDIA GeForce (GTX 1060) | WebView2 Runtime (118.0.2088.61) | .NET Framework (4.8.1)

Then perhaps it might be a good idea to put that link up as a server message, instead of giving us a server error message. The idea of automatic updating is to negate the necessity of following links to see if there are any updates, I've paid for a product, I expect it to work as advertised.

Automatic Updates are working fine, here - you might want to check whether your security system (especially the firewall component) is blocking MWP TCP calls to the Firetrust servers or even the update download, itself.

Personally to me, Automatic Updates suck and hence updates in any form (not limited to MWP) are always disabled and then deliberately firewalled on all my systems.

I think that auto updating is a matter of personal preference, personally I use it almost exclusively for software I trust implicitly, eg MWP. I'm using AVG Pro and MWP has full permissions through the firewall; Windows firewall is off and AVG is handling all traffic. This has been the situation for as long as I have been using MWP and AVG and the server error is only a recent phenomenon, since 7 September in fact.

Does MWP create a log file of errors?

There is a separate .exe file that does the checking, it may be your security s/w blocking.

When you Check for Updates - MWP makes a remote TCP call to the Firetrust server through the updater.exe that resides in your User Files:--

Some security programs have a twisted habit of changing their behavior - especially after being updated (also quite possible is a change of server at Firetrust.)

Can you post your server error, here - preferably a screenshot.

Thanks for that, problem resolved.

For some reason, perhaps a false positive, I don't know, updater.exe had been blocked by AVG firewall. It wasn't until I saw your image that I tried turning the firewall off and saw that updater.exe worked that I realised something was not right in the firewall. I'm going to run another scan overnight to see if it gets turned off again, if it does, I'll get onto AVG. Thanks for your invaluable help, I appreciate it.
