MWP 7.8.0 on Windows 10 v1511 machine. First time I'd done an explicit check for update on this machine since I updated it to Windows 10. I was surprised when it threw an Access Denied error message, with no explanation whatsoever. I've got my UAC setting on the lowest level, and "should" be able to see or access anything on my machine. What am I doing wrong?
TIA

Re: Access Denied on Check for Update?
Navigate to the directory containing the MWP program data (C:\ProgramData\Firetrust) and check whether a folder named updates exists — if not, create it and then try the check for updates... once more.

Re: Access Denied on Check for Update?
There were "mailwasher" and "mwinstall7.8" folders, no updates folder. Created it, and tried it again, no good. Tried setting the attributes on all three folders, including files below, to not be Read Only, again, no good. Tried exiting/reentering MWP (as it was running when I changed the attributes), again, did not work. Wish there was an error code, maybe that might help, but it just says "Access Denied", so I'm unsure if it's a MWP error or maybe a Windows error.

Re: Access Denied on Check for Update?
Under Settings >> General >> Updates >> it will detail the folder it wants to use, perhaps that has been set to something else ? If so, check that the folder MailWasher wants to use exists.

Re: Access Denied on Check for Update?
Now that's weird. First of all, it showed the folder as being my *desktop*. Not sure how THAT happened, certainly wasn't me I changed it to the new Updates folder, and now it works fine. That said, tho, my *desktop* shows as not being 100% RW, as it used to be, but that's a question for another forum
Thanks so much!

Re: Access Denied on Check for Update?
That may actually be a good thing from my personal point-of-view — on all the client machines that I administer to, the Desktop is re-mapped and disabled.epack wrote:That said, tho, my *desktop* shows as not being 100% RW, as it used to be, but that's a question for another forum
