Unable to use Mailwasher Pro with BT Mail

Wed Dec 28, 2016 8:27 am

Hi there:)

When I first installed Mailwasher Pro 7.8.10 I got the message 0 email accounts detected by Mailwasher.

I then "Add email account" and fill in the General Incoming and Outgoing and passwords, etc.

I double checked to make sure all settings, server port numbers, etc, were correct. I also double checked my password to make sure that there were no typing errors.

No matter what I did I was unable to connect I always got the same error message - Failed to log into POP3 server.

Can someone help please???

Any help is much appreciated.

Best wishes and a Happy New Year to all:)

I am not a BT Mail user — the following illustration is merely a pointer (hope it helps):—

Thanks Trustfire :) I just tried your configuration but sadly no joy - The previous configuration was Port Number 110, use secure authentication with secure connection SSL unchecked. nothing seems to be working.

Can you try disabling your security system and then restarting MWP to see whether it connects.

In case it does not connect, can you please post details of the error message from the MWP event log.

Howard, you might want to change the password on your BT Mail account and then input the new password into MWP, your e-mail client and handheld device/s.

If that fails, too — you might have to check your firewall logs for any MWP blocked events.

Hi Trustfire:) I just tried disabling my Firewall to see if that may have been an issue. I use Windows Firewall - That made no difference - I will try changing password now to see if that helps...

Thanks for trying to help me Trustfire:)

I ended up having to restore an early Acronis image. I sadly won't be able to upgrade Mailwasher Pro again without this issue re-occuring. When my pro version expires, I will have to just use the reverted free version without trying to upgrade again.

Mailwasher works ok now since I restored the backup image. The settings were exactly the same as those I tried with the new version.

Best wishes,

Howard

BT uses port 110 for POP3 on mail.btinternet.com. Use secure authetication.

For IMAP , also mail.btinternet.com, port 993, SSL.

Thanks Michael:)

I did use that in the past and tried it again but to no avail now. Only recently have I encountered this issue.

Strange. It works here.

But BT is such a shower that nothing surprises me.

The Mailwasher support team recently found a solution that works for me. By changing my BT Mail password so it has NO special characters like *, % , etc, to one with only letters and numbers, all now works well.

Why this is the case I do not understand. However, it has worked.

Two other suggestions from support I did NOT need to try, were changing the default BT Mail settings from:-

1.) Check stored cached emails, to uncheck stored cached emails.

2.) Uncheck this server requires a secure connection to check this server requires a secure connection (SSL).

Because of the support teams help to resolve this issue, I have now purchased Mailwasher Pro Lifetime.

I hope that this follow up may help anyone else who has experienced the same problem.

Best wishes,

Howie:)
