Action email symbol

I have a spurious email sitting in my inbox that claims to be ransomware. I have selected it for deletion but not picked Wash Mail yet as there is a star in the leftmost column that shows 'You have actioned this email'.
Is this true as all I did was pick the thumbs-down button?
Can I proceed with Wash Mail safely?

That just means you have taken some action with that email - and you did. You clicked the thumbs- down button. You did not do anything to the actual email. The star is there to remind you, the user, you already did something with that email. This is handy if you have a long list of emails displayed in your inbox.

You will also get that star if you mark an email for Delete, for example.

Yes, can and should Wash Mail right away.
