It was working fine for ages then it suddenly was unable to log in.

I've tried both POP and IMAP but haven't had any success.

What can I do to make it work again?

Is Less Secure Apps enabled here ? https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps

With that enabled, under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> try unchecking Use OAUTH if checked.

I tried that with both POP and IMAP settings, but that hasn't helped.

Odd, and your password hasn't changed ?

Try sending me some logs, if you go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter a note like 'gmail failing' >> in Ticket Number field enter chris >> Send Logs >> reply back here once sent.

OK great. The error being sent back after MW sends the password is

S: -ERR [AUTH] Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754

So try going to that URL, logon to Google using the same account also.
You may need to go here also to logon https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and follow on screen steps, then once complete try MW again.

You could also try here and create an app specific password https://support.google.com/accounts/ans ... 67600&rd=1

Also quickly check here that POP and IMAP are actually set as enabled for the account https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop

I'm not making any headway I'm afraid.

The details I have entered in MW are all correct.

OK, try the following in this order.

Double check Less Secure Apps is enabled https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps

Go here and confirm the same https://myaccount.google.com/security?p ... nectedapps the option for Less Secure Apps is down the bottom.

Then go here and start the process https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha I believe you need MailWasher to attempt to logon using POP3 within 10 minutes once you click Continue.


If that doesn't resolve the problem, so you have anything unusual activity listed https://myaccount.google.com/notifications or here https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity ?

Assuming not, and although annoying, I would then look to change my GMail password and try again using a new password.
